Headed to the track for the first time...tips?
Headed to the track for the first time...tips?
Hey guys i finally got my car sort of done(still need new tires and a stall). Well this saturday is a test and tune day at Julesburg(www.julesburgdragstrip.com) I would like to go to Bandamere speedway but it costs like 20 bucks more and it is an hour farther away from me. Also Julesburg is at 3500 feet and Bandamere is at 5500 feet, so i should run considerably quicker at julesburg.
Anyways do you guys got any tips on what i should bring along? Im running street tires and the stock stall(ya i know) so should i even try to foot brake it or what?
Also what do you think ill run, everything is stock on my car except for the mods in sig, but the motor has had new rings and bearings 700 miles ago. I will also be switing to mobile 1 synthetic tommarow.
ps looks like there is also a swap meet the day of the test and tune so maybe ill be able to pick up some cheap et streets on crappy rims and see what ill run with those.
thanks guys i know its long and im sorry

Leave everything you don't need at home. Clean the car out of everything you're not going to need. I'm not sure about your track rules for a street car.
Bring:
Helmet
Tire pressure gauge and a little 12v air compressor in case you want to adjust pressures.
Warm clothing because it will probably cool off at night.
Registration, insurance, driver's license
Pen to fill out tech card
Whatever tools you might need to do tuning adjustments. Timing light etc.
Don't expect fast ET's especially at altitude.
It's just T&T. If you don't have a lot of things to change, just go out and have fun.

That's up to track policy. Some tracks say you need one for all speeds. If they allow you to race, normally 14 seconds and slower, without a helmet then you don't need one unless you run quicker. You take it just in case they say you need to wear one. If you don't have a helmet with you and you need one, it's a long drive home.
A simple M2000 rated open face motorcycle helmet will never be a problem. You can get them for less than $100 from any motorcycle shop.

Thanks guys. I get paid tomarrow so i may just go and get a helmet. Might as well i guess. I let you know how i do satureday...for somereason i dont think im gona break 13s.
Re: Headed to the track for the first time...tips?
wear long pants and long sleeve shirt. some tracks will rent helmets but if they dont have any left your screwed. you should get into 13s cause my ran a 13.9 and i dont hae any major mods like you.good luck
Re: Headed to the track for the first time...tips?
Do you not have headers on that thing? If not, you need to get a set on there ASAP. The car will run so much better.
Either way, just get the tires warm smoke them a bit. And launch off idle (about 1200rpms). When my car had the stock stall, anything more than that usually lit the tires up. Go out on a back road and practice a bit.
Also, keep in mind, the track will hook better than the street. So, if you can find a way to hook on the street, you can probably push a lil harder at the track and run pretty well. Try to get your 60' down in the 2.0 range, which is usually the best you can get out of street tires.

Yes ive got headers. I finally figured out what my high rpm miss is though...i think it is the stock plug wires, they may be arching at higher rpms. o well im still going tomarrow just to get a base line run and maybe enter the gamblers race whatever that is.
I want to run mid 13s or maybe even a 12 if im lucky but the damn elevetion will kill me... at least the track is at 3500, im at 5500 were i live.
I will probably try to pick up a helmet on the way.
Thanks
James
