Has anyone tried weights in the rear?

What do you think would be better.A 1.6 to 1.8 60ft time with 200 extra pounds in the rear or 2.0+ 60 ft time without the weight.Which one would affect the ET the most.I'm shure there's some calculator for this stuff.
Has anyone tried it.

why dont you just get some sticky tires? I doubt adding 200 pounds to the rear is gonna give you enough traction to shave 2 tenths off your 60 foot, plus you will accelerate slower due to the extra weight.

?????????? Why not remove weight from the front instead? Add 200 pounds to the back? Get some decent tires and go to the track on a day they do a good job of prep.

What he said. Adding weight is never a solution....

Re: Has anyone tried weights in the rear?

I'm adding 200lbs to the rear this weekend. I have a good base on 60', ET, mph, and weather. I'll let you know how it works out.

I need to add weight to slow my car down a bit for the 12.0 cut. I think I may be the first on the board to slow a car down.

Re: Has anyone tried weights in the rear?

My back glass is gone and I now have a sheet of Lexan for a back window and a piece of aluminum for a deck lid. That took off around 100 pounds or so. The car is very nose heavy with a 60/40 split but I'd rather have the weight reduction than having to add weight.

Take weight off the front before you try to add weight to the rear.

How much fuel do you carry? A full 18 gallon fuel tank has 108 pounds of fuel in it. The empty tank weighs 25 pounds. Get a lightweight smaller fuel cell and you can remove weight from the rear just in the amount of fuel you carry.

I went to 28" tall tires to slow my car down... And I do use a full tank of gas each time simply to keep the weight constant. I understand the 12.00 cutoff problem.

Re: Has anyone tried weights in the rear?

ok, just got back. 200lbs did NOTHING for my 60'. My car usually hooks anyway. I did run .26 slower and the car felt like it was tied to a boat anchor.

Side note: going from 3" bullets to 2 1/2" dynomax turbo mufflers made the car loose 25hp.

I did manage to raise my shift point to get the car to run 11.991, 11.971, 11.961 and all at 114.xx mph. Almost as much fun as running 11.20's at 120mph but I now I can run in the 12.0 index races and bracket race in street and heavy.

+200 lbs shift at 6000 2k launch 1.754 60' 12.262et 111.47mph
+50 lbs shift at 6000 2k launch 1.777 60' 12.143 et 112.54 mph
+0 lbs shift at 6500 2k launch 1.763 60' 11.991et 114.56mph
same 1.717 60" 11.982 111.74 on the brakes
day ended after the round win and my car spewed in the staging lanes....broken radiator overflow

all with min track prep
2500da, sea level track , hot mid day July Jersey weather.

Instead of adding dead weight to the rear, try moving the battery to the rear, gets weight off of the nose and puts it back were its needed.

Yes, I was in the slick tire class. I withdrew from the semi-final round because of the coolant leakage.

Re: Has anyone tried weights in the rear?

Thanks Kazman for reporting your experiment for us.Cool playaz.I do need to take some weight out of the front. So far I've removed my front sway bar and thats about it for the front.I took all the sound deadining stuff and the spare and the rear speakers.Isn't relocating the battery sort of usless since the weight of the extra wire sort of cancel itself out,or it it dosen't matter. The extra room would be kinda nice under the hood though.Any other practical front weight solutions.I think adding stiffer/heavier suspension and a rear end would equalize the weight transfer alot.Is there a way you can figure what the split is.

I would kind of think the added weight of the wire would be and issue, but lots of guys are doing it. If you had the dough you could go with a tubular front k member...that would save 20-30 lbs or so...i think.
