Post Good street/strip tire?

I know everyone loves nittos, and i'd love a pair too, but how long will they last? I heard some say 15-20k, is that true? I also thought about some M.T. sportsman tires. How do they hook and how long will they last? I'm getting a set of Pro Stars, Tel Stars, or Draglite, whichever i can get cheapest, to drive on every day. Any advice. Anyone know where i could get a set of good used wheels like this?

Nitto 555R Drag Radials rule

So far I have 13K miles on my 275/40/17 sized rear tires. They never see a lot of highway time either but once a year so id say they are abused nicely I have made more than 50 1/4 mile passes on them and EACH one of those passes had at least a 7 second burnout before them. They hook GREAT! My old 14 second IROC 60 footed to a best of 1.80 and averaged 1.85.

In the rain they are VERY safe when they are new. Just as safe as any other ZR rated tire like a BFG or GS-C.

After about 8K miles however I am VERY careful in the rain. I slow it down a lot. With the total 13K miles they have ZER$O tread but there is still some life left for drag racing. 100% tire to ground contact

Later man!

FYI, they are also nicely priced for what they are!! mine were $355 out the door mounted and what not.

Check them out on my website(rear tires only)

In my opinion, a good street strip tire hooks at the strip and is legal to drive on the street. Mileage doesn't enter into the formula. How can anyone actually compare mileage on tires that do burnouts?

The rubber compund needs to be soft to hook and soft rubber wears faster.

Nitto and BFG both make decent drag radials. The Nitto has a tread pattern that is twice as deep as the BFG which is why the tires seem to last longer.

If you need lots of traction, ET Streets are the best at the track, but you really don't want to use them on the street. The compound is very sticky and even the slightest hint of rain will result in hydroplaning.

We have had good luck with the 555Rs.

We had 24k miles on them before i started racing them on my car. They had 30-40 passes on one car and a few track days on the car we got them off of. They worked GREAT in the rain till we hit the wear bars.

Trust me...In seattle it rains alot

I am getting good 60s out of them and I do not have to change tires at the track like I was my BFGs. I still have a feeling my BFGs Hooked harder but the Nitto's last longer.

Next year i am going to Nitto's full time on my car for street duty and QTPs for track

Good luck

A taller sidewall will hook much better than a short sidewall.

I am getting consistent 1.7x 60's and have had a best 1.69 60'. That is leaving at idle with a 2800 stall, only going 1/2 throttle for the first 10mph.
