front sway bar?
front sway bar?
should i remove it? i want to go on i diet and it weighs close to 25 lbs, and it will help squat more and transfer weight a lot more shouldn't it? i have a half chassis in the rear with ladder bars and with the sway bar on and i whomp on it, it lifts the front end evenly no left side higher then right. should i leave it on or would it improve my launch by a lot? i don't turn going very fast when i drive it on the road but should i be worried about driving the car with it off?
i took mine off about a couple of weeks ago. i was told it wasnt a good idea to drive on the street with it off too, but i drive mine every day and havent experienced any problems whatsoever. i put skinnies on too, and together, my car launches MUCH better, the front end comes up alot more and the weight transfer is alot better.
you will lose some cornering capabilities, but nothing too extreme. i can still go around 25mph exits ats about 30-35 comfortably. i mean, you cant fly around them like you used to (70+
, or maybe thats just me) but its not that big a deal. the biggest change will be driving down the inerstate at 65+. you can definatly feel a difference there, but again, nothing that i would consider "unsafe". put it to ya this way, i used to have a 65 chevelle that handled like a boat, literally, and even with my sway bar off on my Z, the Z still handles 10x better.
i dont know why everyone says the sway bar weighs 25-30lbs though. its more like 10-15. its really not that heavy, the major advantage to taking it off its not to save weight, but to get a MUCH better launch and better transfer.

thanks for your input
i don't ever drive it on the freeway or take turns going that fast. i have a spool with huge tires (31.18.5-15 out back) and skinies up front so it wouldn't corner anyways. did you have a problem with the chassis tweaking too much? on the weight part i didn't think it weighed that much when i took it off yesturday but weight is weight i guess. the weight on the front should greatly decrease without the sway bar, adding aluminum heads, electric water pump, and electric fans, i hope.

I would think an older car would benefit more from a deleted sway bar than the newer cars. The new stuff is all hollow, I seem to remember a buddy's 73 Camaro having a solid bar. BIG difference in weight there.
