First time at track with z28

Last friday i visited the track with the z28 (150k mi.)for the first time.. i got 6 runs in.. here are the times

1st run:
R/T .574
60' 2.299
1/8 9.439 @ 77.25 MPH
1/4 14.635 @ 94.00 MPH

2nd run: Trans slipped in 2nd
R/T .485
60' 2.336
1/8 10.073 @ 71.02 MPH
1/4 15.335 @ 94.59 MPH

3rd run:
R/T .513
60' 2.264
1/8 9.286 @ 78.66 MPH
1/4 14.235 @ 99.00 MPH

4th run:
R/T .600
60' 2.213
1/8 9.291 @ 78.00 MPH
1/4 14.256 @ 99.04 MPH

5th run:
R/T .475
60' 2.154
1/8 9.081 @ 79.58 MPH
1/4 13.967 @ 100.49 MPH

6th run:
R/T .321
60' 2.245
1/8 9.188 @ 79.28 MPH
1/4 14.098 @ 99.97 MPH

I ran with the cutout open and no air filter.
I'm going to do a tune-up on it this week and run again this friday and see what kind of times i pull.. I feel I can pull a 13.7 if I launch harder. My buddies 93 T/A went 13.7 with subs and about 200 lbs in tools laying in the car and 155k mi.. he only had SLP LM1 Catback on it. So thats my goal for this week. I'm going to Atco Raceway... if any1 lives close you should come

also.. any1 have any input as to how i should launch or how long to heat up the tires (street tires 245's)

Towards the later runs, it looks like you nailed some pretty good times for a near stock, higher mileage LT1. Nice job.

Don't worry.. you can get 13's next time you go to the track. My buddy has a foxbody 5 spd, and he said he launches at 4k and feathers the clutch so he won't spin so bad. I've seen him get 1.6 60's with BFG DR's! Keep practicing man!

You can either launch right off idle, or bring the revs up a little (around ~800 - 1000 RPM which will be much easier on the rear diff .

As for heating up the tires, you're pretty much wasting your time/tires doing so with streets . Until or unless you get drag radials, start with the pressure up around ~35 - 36 psi, only do a quick spin to "clean them off" if you want to, but a burn-out won't help.

Congrats on getting into the 13's though A few of my friends have hit them with stock or close-to-stock LT1's, while a couple haven't .

13.7s are fully within your grasp. If you guys would just invest in a set of Drag radials it would make your life much easier and track runs more fun. It takes alot of the driver error out of the run.

I'm definately getting some 15" rims in the near future, and I want to pick up a set of ET streets.. I'm doing a tune-up as soon as the plugs I ordered arrive (NGK TR-55s). Anybody know what plug wires I should go with? I'm going to run the car next week to see if I can get a 13.7.

Agreed . One of my buddies was able to cut a 13.8xx with his bone-stock '97 Z28 M6, but after we bolted my BFG DR's to his car, he cut a 13.7xx .

Oh yeah, line-lock can be helpful too!! (only if you've got slicks/DR's to heat up though)
