Lightbulb First time to the track. Any advice?

Well, here is my best time.

Weather
86 Degrees F
80% Humidity

R/T .629
60 2.2
330 6.2
1/8 9.4
MPH 76.9
1000 12.2
1/4 14.4
MPH 97.9

Do you see where I could improve the most?

Are these times way slow, or about right. It was hot and humid, as you can see, but I don’t know how much that affects our LT1’s My car is bone stock except for a K&N FIPK. I ran 10 times, and my launches SUCKED 7 out of the 10. The track surface was so much stickier than the street. I kept bogging my engine. I have a M6, so the amount of clutch I’m use to letting out was way too much. I had no tire spin, which led to a bog. I've been driving the car for 6 years, and I think I'm too used to driving it on the street. I wasn't prepared for the track surface to be so much different. I'm running street tires(Potenza RE730's, on stock 16" rims)

One time I lined up against a dragster that ran a 8.9 second 1/4 mile. He left me like I was standing still. It was cool though. I have it one video. It's not often that you get to see your car get smoked by a dragster.

U can improve those 2.2 60's to about 1.9-2.0's...and Lt1 6spds generally trap in the 101-102 area stock so u can see the heat/humidity killed them...get some practice and good weather and u should be able to cut higher 13's(13.7-9's) no problem...

It was nice meeting you at the track.
I was down 3+ mph from my best yesterday so you should be able to break the 100 mph mark in the cool fall weather.
Practice practice practice.

Great to meet you too Al. Beautiful car you have there. I plan to make a trip over to Stanton again a little later this year. You're right, practice is what it's going to take. At least now I know what I can work on, and how I should improve my launches.

Antz97ZNJ,
Thanks for the advice. I'd love to break into the 13's. That's my goal with the stock car that I have.

By the way, after looking at my time slips, that dragster hit 130 MPH at the 1/8 mile mark! He must have let off after that because his speed was way lower at the 1/4 mile marker. I can't imagine what he would have run if he kept on it. It's cool to have on video though, me lined up against that guy. It makes me laugh every time I watch it. He is pretty much out of the picture in the first second of the movie, and I'm just getting rolling.

The times are pretty on par with stock LT1s. I ran 14.34@96 with just a hooker cat back and no cat. I went on a relatively cool day, coulda been better, but oh well. Heat and humidity killed ya. 97's are generally a lil faster than older LT1s like mine(94). I also took out my spare tire and jack to run that 14.3, all the runs before were 14.4.

first clue about engines...3 things kill them, high heat, high humidity and high altitude! you had 2 of three!! go back during the fall and you will see your times go way up!!
