First runs with 02 SS...
The car has 4k miles on odometer and mods in sig.
Times are as follows:
1st run:
R/T....784
60'...2.032
330...5.716
1/8...8.665
MPH...83.88
990...11.143
1/4...13.377
MPH...104.62
2nd run:
R/T....840
60'...2.057
330...5.679
1/8...8.593
MPH...84.69
990...11.051
1/4...13.268
MPH...105.37
Times were at Atco Raceway, NJ. I'm hoping if I get some more miles on the car and run it in nice cold weather, it'll do 13.0x-12.9x like my 00 Z28 did with the same mods. Oh well, time will tell.

Those are some really nice times, especially for a automatic. Actually, that's the best i've seen a auto run. I seen alot of stock 02 SS 6 speeds and only a few have hit those numbers. Again, nice job. Is there a stall converter in your near future?

Thanks. Yeah...I think when my warranty runs out I'll probably get a higher stall converter. It's probably one of the best mods you can do to an auto.

Ben, why the new car? I guess you beat that 2000 all you dared to. It was real quick though for what little you did to it. I just ran a 2002 Z28 6 speed car at Atco and he could only get a 13.6@102 on a 2.1 60' time. He has an HPP and cold air intake. Damn son you can drive.. Lets see what that beast will run with a proper 3600 converter,
Fred

Hey Fred. I totaled my Z in May. So I went out and got an SS. I do miss how well the Z ran. I hope this car runs just as good. It seems to be good so far. Hehe..with a 3600 stall it should do high 12's all day easy. I'm sure I'll be shopping for a converter and/or gears when the odometer hits 36,001
.

Ben, I'll guarantee you will hit 12.9's this fall. What was the date when your 2000 Z28 went 12.9's? The 2002 with the same mods will do it too,
Fred
BTW, don't the 2002 SS A4's come with 3.42 gears?

Fred, the 00 went 12.9 in Feb. The 02 a4's come with 3.23's as a standard rear. The optional rear is a 3.42. Mine has a 3.23. The 02 m6's come with the 3.42. I just ran the 02 again on thurs night and got a best of 13.04 at 106.96 w/1.98 60'. The temp was about 50 degrees on thurs night. Needless to say, I think this car will go faster than the 00 once the miles are on it and the temps drop even further.

I find it amazing how the auto Z28's(1998-2002) seem to beat the 6 speed cars almost everytime in the qtr at a track. Ben, just imagine with a 3800 converter, 3,73's and a set of ET Streets. Can you say very low 12's,
Fred

Yeah...I've noticed that too. Autos always seem to qtr better. When I get a converter I have to be aware of the torque management system. I'm being told if it sences too much torque it'll retard my timing. This is separate from my traction control system which I'm able to turn off. The torque management system is programed into the computer and cannot be turned off. Unless I get LS1 edit or a lap top. The 98-02 cars all have this but the 02's are supposed to be more sensitive to it from what I'm hearing. I'm also hearing whether it's a 98-02 car, with the stock converter, I shouldn't have to worry about the torque management system activating until I change to a higher stall. I don't know if there's a way to tell if it's activating but personally I don't think I've noticed a problem with this in either car yet.
Fred, how are the new heads? They must have made a big difference.

Unfortunately, the first run I made some of the pistons rings failed. I mean after the heads were installed. Yeah, 13.3@98 isn't what I expected. On a 1.8 60' time. I recorded 9 degrees of knock retard the whole trip. Next time at the track after my new rebuild I expect high 11's,
Fred
