which drag wheels?
which drag wheels?
which brand would be best to go with bogart or weld? i will need to grind the calipers to fit the welds, right? are there any other drag wheels besides the bogarts that are a direct fit for fourth gen cars? anyone running the bogarts on the street? is it safe if the car is just a weekend cruiser? what size wheels and tires should i run in the front and in the rear? will i need spacers? who has the best deals on them?

The 15" Welds will require 5/16" spacers for the front, and longer wheel studs. The rear brake caliper fins will have to be ground down, and longer studs there as well. You are talking $180/wheel, plus extra long shank mag-style lug nuts, plus spacer, plus longer studs. The 15x3.5" fronts are clearly marked "track use only".... the 15x8" or 10" rears are legal for street use, and fairly rugged.
The 15" Bogart P1 Billet's are made specifically for the 4th Gen, and come with spacers welded on already, and require no grinding. They also use an acorn style lug nut, so you don't need to get longer wheel studs. No extra costs beyond the wheels. In my opinion, the Bogarts are very "light" and may not hold up well to any sort of street "abuse". I definitely would not use them for any hard cornering applications. The Bogart website indicates "track use only." Definitely a nice weight savings over the Welds, if you take the hardware into consideration. Probably talkiing high $200's per wheel.
CenterLine makes a 15" wheel that will fit with no spacers or grinding..... can't remember the model, but GM Hight Tech used them on one of their project cars. Not as light as the Welds, cost a lot less.
What size tires you use will depend on the type of driving you plan to do on the weekends, how often you go to the track, how much power you are putting down, etc.

the roads here are not the best, but the car would see mainly highway on weekends. when complete it should be putting down over 400rwhp na and over 500 on spray. 26" is the tallest tire i can fit without any modification to the quarter panel, right? would it be ok to just get some generic tires for the fronts or should i get specific skinnies? thanks
There isn't much weight difference between the Centerlines and Welds. I had Convo Pros on my car for a year and they fit w/o any grinding(LT1). The fronts did rub on an LS1 car though. I don't know if they still offer the Convo Pros, but they're a very nice wheel. If it wasn't for the fact that I couldn't get wider than a 7.5" w/ the appropriate backspacing, I'd still be running them.
The Welds will require some grinding to the brake calipers. It's really not that hard if you've got a good grinder handy. Just take patience.
I've now got Bogart D-10s and they were a direct fit(9.75" wide in the back too.
). You are given a choice of open-ended(track-legal) or Acorn nuts. You will need spacers w/ the Bogarts too. I replaced the studs right after getting the wheels. GM offers a longer stud in the stock thread. With these, I can still run my chrome 5-stars when I want to go incognito, sans lug nut covers.

In effect, if you tell Bogart you want a 4th Gen F-Body wheel, they weld the required "spacer" to the inside of the wheel hub. Then they are direct bolt-on.
Bogart P1 "SS" - front
Bogart P1 "SS" - rear
Bogart P1 "SS" - front
Bogart P1 "SS" - rear
I don't have a picture of them, but there is an aluminum spacer TIG'd onto the wheel when they come. I told the Bogart distributor that I needed a set of D-10s for an LT1 F-Body and he already knew the dimensions. Bogart wil make the wheel anyway you want. If you wanted a 12" wide wheel w/ a 5" backspacing for that extreme mullet look, they'd make it.
I would strongly suggest running longer studs. First, I don't the stock studs would pass NHRA tech w/ a set of Bogarts(or Draglites, Pro Stars, etc.). Second, it's cheap insurance. Breaking a wheel stud sucks.
