Drag Racing
I have a very strong suggestion that if you take your car to the dragstrip, and tell the tech instectors it is your first time, and watch what the other drivers do before you try it, that you will have one heck of a good time.
What you describe is what I did in the summer of 1998 with my completely stock Camaro. Within a couple of weeks I had ordered drag radials, a short throw shifter, a cold air kit and headers... I was hooked beyond belief. I went evrey single time the track was open and made as many passes as I could. Along the way I had four runner ups and one victory that first season and finished fourth in the points standings at my local track. I qualified for the NHRA Division 1 Bracket Finals and went to Delmar to compete. I did lose in the first round but it was like a dream come true just to be there.
I'm not saying that stupid stuff and accidents don't happen, because they do, but consider that you are on a straight track with no turns, no contact with the other car, and if you do spin the tires or something you can just let off the gas, there is actually very little risk. You probably have higher odds of screwing something up from being hit by a shopping cart in a Walmart parking lot.
I see you are from Boston. A lot of guys in the New England Forum go up there to run. Most go on Friday nights I think. I will be there this Sunday for our points race. Check out http://www.newenglanddragway.com for the schedule. Hope to see you at the track.

hey thanks, I actually went to the track at the cam bird show a few weeks ago when it got rained out, I just went to watch, I now know how the etiquette works and all that. I have actually practiced launches at this old abandoned road near my house too. I just don't want my "rear end to break" as I hear everyone say in these forums, or shred a bearing or whatever. I don't want a modded out beast, I want to keep mine stock, keep it clean, but I have to go to the drag stri[p soon. THanks for your help man, I appreciate it.
