Do ET Streets need tubes?

Do I need tubes? I understand that if I run with rim screws it is necessary, but does the design of the ET allow it to be run tubeless.

I have seen E.T. Streets that have leaked out air after sitting for not too long of a period of time. I would definitely tube them.

I've run both ET Streets and QTP's with rim screws and no tubes, and no problems.

Here is answere from MT:

All I can say is my ET Streets loose air and go flat. This is a very sift side wall tire.

Good Luck!

I second Fred's success without tubes.

I ran tubeless / screwless with no problems until I ran over a staple (how the heck did one get at the track I don't know). FWIW, it's been over a month and my one et street has not lost even 1 lb of air pressure! So I say go tubeless, and if you somehow spring a leak, you can always save the tire by using tubes and rim screws :-). G'luck.

re:tubeless

GMHTP's project car TGOW ran unmounted, tubeless et streets and didnt have any problems. I myself am going to try and run mine tubless. I would definately take it for a spin around your block or up the road before you go anywhere to see if you like it tubeless and it feels ok. A buddy of mine drove his mustang about an hour away to an industrial park for street racing on tubeless (unmounted) et streets.

I've ran both ET Streets and ET Drags tubeless without a problem.

I run no tubes AND rim screws on my ET Streets, no problems. Roomate runs the same w/ his QTP's on his 69 Firebird, no problem. Another friend pulls 1.5 and I believe has dipped into the 1.4 60' range, again no tubes. Another guy we run w/ at the track, pulling 1.6-1.7 60' w/ a stick car (like me), another tubless guy.

I've seen it to be more of the exception to run with tubes. My tires seem to leak about 1psi a day, due to the rim screws and solid valve stems.

I run tubes and screws. I don't want the random flat, the intermittant air leak, the spinning on the rims. I also want to decrease the risk of anything bad happening at over 100mph. For me it is simple, just follow the manufacturers recommendations. The extra few bucks can't hurt.

I ended up taking a 2000 Bonneville instead of the Camaro yesterday. I did terrible. Couldn't seem to launch the car effectively. ET's were 17.36 to 16.34 with no way to predict... Went out in second round. Fortunately the points leader went out in round one... Two points meets left, I need to go four more rounds than the leader to repeat...
