Can't launch

I need help with my launch. I seem to get a little jumpy and either stall out or smoke the tires. I know I need practice, but is there a specific technique I can use as a starting point? (i.e. stage, rev to xxxx rpm, let off hard/ease into it) Mods are on my website.

If you've got decent tires, should just be able to rev it up to 3k or so and just step off the pedal as if you were walking... a quick slip.

Don't side-step the clutch because that just leads to bad stuff happening, even with street radials.

what does side-step mean? I've already killed one clutch by easing off when I was trying to smoke em.

side-step is doing that.. just dumping the clutch. If you slip the clutch you'll be fine, and yeah practice makes perfect.

Re: Can't launch

didn't read your mods but a set of MT drag radials for the track will help tremendously. My brother runs tens a lifts the the fronts with em.

yeah, but drag radials would kill my rear end and this is my every day driver. i'm looking more for technique here rather than parts. thanks though.

Practice makes perfect. Everyones car reacts differently and the track may not grip the same from day to day. It becomes a feel thing once you do it enough. Have fun.

Dude, just rev her up to about 3 and a 1/2 and then, dump the clutch. You'll be sure to launch, with a little spinage too maybe, but it won't fail.

Re: Can't launch

well the problem is that when I start spinning, I have a hard time stopping. When I went and ran the 14.3, all I did was bog big time because I wasn't revving at all. I'll be getting newer tires in the near future, but I want to hit the track up next week. I'll post the new times, and thanks for the advice.

Re: Can't launch

If you want to launch good on street tires rev her up to 3 k or so and let the clutch half way out or so. You can mash the pedal and let the clutch out the rest of the way. This will hurt the clutch cause it is burning it up but it helps for a good launch.

Btw isnt sidestepping slipping the clutch? Thats what i always thought it was.

Re: Can't launch

"Side-stepping" the clutch is the same as "popping" the clutch. You just take your foot right off (side-step) the clutch pedal, and the pedal "pops" up.
