Talking Busted 11s first time out

It was kind of a rough day. It started by putting on new brakes. Just so everyone knows. You should go ahead and put new brakes on the car when you clearence the calipers for the 15" rims. If not, your rims will look like mine and make you late to the track

I had some good pulls but spent the whole night on the rev limiter. It would bang between 5 and 9 times off of the limiter between 2 and 3 . It absolutly killed my momentum! Joe's got that sucker pulling so hard up there that it felt like hitting a brick wall. I thought that I had set the shift point too high so we chopped the car with a razor and hack saw to clearence for a 28" slick. It kinda killed my gear and still hit the rev limiter She did pull the front end off of the ground about 6" though I think the best pull was 11.91 at 112.5. The mph and et is explained by that darn limiter. She had an EASY 11.6 or 7 in her last night!!!

What do you guys think of this. On the way home I raced an LS1 and pulled HARD up top and the car slammed me on the 2 to 3 shift I did it at least 6 times and the car hit hard as hell, never touched the limiter. At the track, the car sat for at least an hour and a half between runs and I was always near the front of the line. So the car usually just drove for under a min before my burnout and run, then was parked. I'm thinking that the tranny fluid may have been too cold??? I know when I run the car after sitting for a while, it takes a couple of mins for the converter to lock up. Does that make any sense? Has anyone had any problems like that. I was real hard on her a few times on the way back and it shifted hard right where I set it.

Thanks everyone that helped me with this car. I am very happy and I gaurntee she'll be mid 11s real shortly

not to bad for your frist time out

as for the trans if the car is not in closed loop it may effect shift points

but as for the trans needing to heat up is a different story that sucker was still warm from the drive there they hold heat quite well

maybe with your car hooking it dosent build up enough line pressure and its time to do some inturnal trans mods like a better pump and a F.M.V. then you never have to worrie about your auto missing a shift

well good times for the frist time out now get the bugs out and get some low 11's you know their possible

Thanks Eric, I think you may be onto something with the closed loop. I know it was in open loop for each run. Next time I'll let it run for a couple of mins before the run. I still need to pull some weight out of the car. It's a pig at over 3500 with me in it. It did ease out of the hole to a 1.61 60ft. It will be 1.5s on the next run. The tall tire took alot of my gear.
When is your car gonna be running. I know who to talk to about tuning

I have gone into save mode as so i can do everything at ounce inc. the trans for the third time and spend some time when i get it lighting up the car as well mine was 3610 with me in it add another 30 lbs to my now too so i have some work to do

if you got those awsome pontiac leather seats their worth a lot on the diet side them suckers are heavy. Put a race bucket in and shazam 10's well maybe not but it could help

1.6's are very good that shift problem must be holding you back like crazy

I know your pain b/c I have had that problem many times. I am going to pull the trans in my car in the next couple of weeks for that very same problem. Sometimes my car shifts awesome then at the track it will bump the limiter quit a few times. I have run my best times with my trans on the limiter on the 2-3 shift awile back I was thinking about going with a TH350 trans but i like my overdrive and drive everyday on the street. I am thinking about going with a manulvalvebody in the 4l60e. I really wish I could get my trans fixed right so I could run fast on nitrous.

the 1/8 was a 7.53@ 89.87 and mph was 113.5. That was after I hit the limiter at 72mph though. I wish they had a 330" to give me something inbetween. Everyone kept asking what was wrong with the car because it was kack, kack, kacking down the track

With that 1/8 ET the car should be good for ~ 11.5 or so w/the bugs worked out. Congrats.

Sweet runs, even if you were hitting the chip. Wish mine would run on the other end like it does in the first 1/8, definitely be in the low 11's. Must be that big non lock-up converter I'm running. If you get some dyno #'s let us know.

It is fixed and shifting faster than EVER!!!! The first dyno # is in my sig. Joe tuned it for me and we tried to get a TQ# down low on the dyno last week. It broke the straps, popped a wheelie, and flew off of the dyno Joe O knows how to tune.
I"m expecting to really do something spectacular in a couple of weeks with a 26" slick this time I'll keep yall posted

What did you do to fix your shifting problem? I am having the same problem and don't know how to fix it. I will probably pull the trans next week b/c of this.Let me know what you found. Later Clint

I bumped the mph back to 70mph with 3:73s and took out the shift delay. I also raised the rev limiter to 6550.

I cut a couple of 1.61s with a 28" slick I'll have a 26" slick on fri so that I can use my little 3:73s. I'm hoping for mid 1.5s
