Big Chief BBC in a 4th gen??

Anyone done it? I know you can put a BBC in there, but we are talking a port that is raised 1.5" over stock, this would be on a 9.8 deck block.

Pics would be nice

Get a tube chassis car first.

I don't think you'll get much good advise on a BBC swap here. Most of the people around here just stick with the LS1 or LT1.

Check out Brady@teamprick racing. They built two Camaros with 540ci engines. I don't think they were tall deck engines but I think it may fit. They ran 8's on drag radials with a streetable 540 with n2o in a silver 95 Camaro.

You will need some SERIOUS chassis setup if you hope to do anything other than a huge smoke show in a 4th gen w/a Big Chief.

There was a guy here in Michigan with a white T/A that had a big chief BBC in it that ran in NMCA Pro Street some years back with 10.5 tires... no idea what his name was but I do know it was a stock floorpan car.

Steve, email Brady he has some pics. I have all the pieces for the install and I built the headers for him. The BBC fits nicely and with your suspension the car will work great

Why is it that so many people on CZ28 are so negative about someone wanting more power than the typical LT-1 or LS-1 can produce. Sure you can make those produce power. But you can do it alot easier and for alot less money with the BBC set-up.

I don't think he was being negative...just realistic.

You have to remember that most of us will never meet so we don't know how serious or knowledgable the other is.
Besides that, most of us cz28 veterans begin to sound a little one sided when it comes to these type of projects because so many people have began a project like this and unfortunately, do to variables we may not be made aware of, don't finish the project.
I don't think there is any ill intention just people trying to help other stay out of the pitfall that this sport can create.

Re: Big Chief BBC in a 4th gen??

I guess I get upset when it seems like someone doesn't care for this route. To me this was the most cost effective way to achive high HP #'s with the least amount invested. Plus not every one I meet will have the same ol engine I have.

All I have left to do is my 9", rear suspension, rims and tires. I'm putting the finishing touches on the front half of the car. Of course there's a few things I'm going to change first. I elected to hanlde the engine/tranny issues first and then work on the rear end/ suspension secondly. All it takes is a little time and patience. As a matter of fact I really don't see all the difficulties everyone talks about and I'm not a vetern mechanic.

Don't get me wrong, I think Big-Blocks are GREAT....if I could afford the fuel, I'd drive one EVERY day....I did while in college 18yrs ago.
I was just trying to state that one will probably have to specifically set up the chassis for all that torque to efficiently put all the power to the ground.
Every now and then we get the one-off GM-Built EFI 572 powered 4th gen Z28 here at the GM Tech ctr....it is AWESOME !

With F-bodies going in to the 7s with stock style suspension, I think Steve Quinn of all people will get it sorted out.

i agree. once you figure out exactly how the torque arm style suspension works you can put a good amount of horsepower to the ground without a problem. only thing you gotta watch out for when using a BBC is making sure the car doesnt become too nose heavy. even though, with a dialed in suspension and a decent amount of horsepower, 1.2-1.3 60' times are not that difficult to achieve. for example, at the end of last year i dropped a mild 406 in my car on a 300 shot. made about 20 passes leaving with the trans brake on the bottle and hooked every time. all with a $300 jegs torque arm. all my suspension was purchased on a tight budget. so when set-up right, torque arm cars work great.
