Best Air for Racing

Does anyone have opinions on what the best air temp/humidity is for racing? It's getting to be fall here in New England and I'm waiting for that perfect day. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Low temp maybe low 50's, low humidity, and high pressure. Track elevation plays a huge roll also.

New England Dragway is at 90' above sea level if you run on a saturday test and tune on a sunny fall day with low humidity you will hook up and run fast.It is not uncommon to se the DA below sea level in the spring and fall. I jast ran a tenth quicker than I had all year 2 weeks ago.

For horsepower, cold weather.

For traction, hot weather.

Find a happy medium.

I only race in the winter and late fall months for the most part.

Although the cold/cool temperatures are desired, you don't want a cold track. The track has to be warm but not hot. During the summer, traction will improve when a cloud goes over and blocks the sun.

Going by what's in your sig I guess that your car is basically stock.

IMO, LT1's that are stock to lightly modded run best when weather is:

Air temp. - 58-62 degrees
Relative hunidity - 35% or less
Dew point (often overlooked) - 30 degrees or less
Barometric pressure - 30" or higher

If the sun is out track temperature shouldn't be a problem as long as the air temperature is 58-62. If it's cloudy with a breeze it may be a problem, depending on how well the track is prepped. Watch some of the faster cars to see if they're having any problems with traction. If they are, wait for a while until the track gets some heat in it from other cars making runs.

Good luck!
