Battery Cut-Off Switch
Battery Cut-Off Switch
I know if moving the battery to the rear of the car, you have to have a battery disconnect switch that will shut down the car when turned or pushed.
If you just have it disconnected to the battery, the alternator will keep the car running, so, I was thinking of connecting my fuel pump power wire to the switch also. Is this a bad idea?
I was thinking, if I am at the line staging and the tech turns it off, if I lose fuel, I Could go lean for that second and BAM there goes a few pistons .. Whaddya think?

The car will stay running when the battery is disconnected because the alternator is feeding power back into the electrical system. You need to wire a relay in to disconnect the field wire from the alternator. When the field wire is disconnected the alternator doesn't produce electricity and the engine will shut down.
When you disconnect the battery, the fuel pump as well as every other electrical component is automatically disconnected. Once the alternator is isolated out so it doesn't feed the system, nothing electrical will operate when the battery is disconnected.

Check out this set-up. I've got it on my race car and it works great. http://www.madelectrical.com/catalog/tm-1.shtml
With this set-up, the 1/0 cable routed forward to the STARTER is not “live,” except for during cranking. (No fire hazard as with other systems that have a “live” positive battery cable forward.)
Call and talk to Mark about his special system for NHRA Drag Racing & Main Disconnect Switch at the rear with Alternator.
