I would suggest a Yank converter like the ss3600. LS1s make thier peak torque at 4200 rpm and the quicker that you can get to 4200 the harder the car will leave.
When my 2000 Formy was a baby I added a lid, loudmouth, and a Yank ST3500 TC. My best with that combo was 12.15 @ 110 mph. Full weight, no headers or other boltons.
A high stall converter will let the revs rise a little more than stock when daily driving it but when nailing the go pedal it will shoot up to 3400 rpm or higher no matter what gear you're in and the car will accellerate like a monkey with its butt on fire.

You will have a very hard time finding traction with a good stall in your car. So yeah its assumed that your using DRs or Slicks.
Dont forget Fuddle is also a boad sponsor, and I personally will vouch for there service, before and after the sale. They really do stand behind there product.

I think it will definately give you the best bang for your buck. I got to race a nice 96+ Superchaged Mustang GT this year. I beat him 3 times, and it wasnt cause my car is fast, but becuase I can put every bit of what power I have down, and in the right places. He had much more power then I did, and has the faster car, but power is only good when it is able to be utilized. THose mods will get you were you wanna be I promise. Top TCs on this board are: Fuddle, Edge, Vigs, and Yanks. They are listed in order of price as well.

I know I am kind of reviving this thread but it's only been 10 days
Look at my mod list and track time. I run Mickey Thompson Street Radials and have never been laughed at at the track
Without the 3500 stall and drag radials I would be a 13.0 car all day long. I can't say enough about how much a stall kicks ***. The car is soo much more fun to drive. I even beat a new C6 Vette (manual) at the track. He ran a 12.6 @ 113 to my 12.4 @ 108.
You can say all you want about stick shifts and "fun factor" but I was the one winning the race and with 5 MPH less in trap speed. I second the Yank SS3600 stall as the best mod you can do.

Once you install a good converter (possibly a 3200), you will want to experiment with the launches. Most of the new high-tech converters like to be flashed off the line, rather than attempting to just stall it up to the max.
And yes, a good stall converter with traction (slicks, DRs) can drop your 1/4 mile ET five tenths or more. Also, automatic transmissions are very consistent for drag racing.
