Question Anyone running an A4 LS1 w/4.10's?

Well, the deal is made...............I bought a second rear end for my car (complete diff., axles and all) with Richmond 4.10's and an Auburn posi unit (supposedly an aftermarket one? ). This way I can keep my 2.73 rear end for normal daily driving, but swap it out for the 4.10's to go to the track.

My QUESTION is, does anyone here run an A4 with 4.10's? What are your times/speeds like? At this point, my car is still relatively stock (see sig) but I'm considering getting headers next summer, and I'm also planning on installing SFC's, as well as LCA's and relocation brackets (already bought those) and of course, a pair of E/T Streets (probably 26"). 4.10's aren't going to be too much gear are they?

Thx in advance for any feedback.

Also, FWIW, it's a 10 bolt rear end, not a 12 bolt, but I'm thinking about buying a pair of Moser axles to reduce the risk of breaking the stock ones. Hopefully it'll hold up for a while?

A friend on www.ls1tech.com, goes by Magnus, raced with a light car, 4.10's, airbox, lid, drag radials, and stock exhaust and went 12.4@110mph. Now he was probably 3-4 tenths lighter than stock so you could portntially go high 12's if you can cut a decent 60ft.

I ran 4.10's with my old stroker and was going 11.0@123mph. 4.10's are fun on the street and on a roll, but you might need to bump up your rev limiter you could run out of gear on stock tires and with stock rev limiter on the track... you're right there. I cut 1.48 with my setup and Magnus cut I think 1.7's.

You're going to swap REARS everytime you go to the track? You must enjoy punishing yourself... jesus man...

I thought changing out tires was a pain in the *** :-x...

Not to mention your shift points will be all ****ed up unless you flash your PCM all the time too. Not something I'd like to do.

Whoa..........that's not too good for having 3.73's?! Obviously he wasn't running slicks, because even with 2.73's, I've cut 13.4 - 13.6, and when I had 3.73's earlier this year, I still only cut 13.4 because of having NO traction. I know that if I had traction (using E/T Streets or DR's) I would have run much quicker.

Javier97Z28, I know it sounds nuts to switch the whole rear axle out, but if you think about it, it's actually not too much work (probably take about an hour? +/- ) and I usually only go to the track maybe twice a summer. Remember, with LS1 brakes, they simply unbolt, and don't need to be bled when reinstalled. Otherwise, it's just a few nuts and bolts.

Also, I've got a Hypertech, so re-programming for 4.10's isn't a big deal..............only takes a couple minutes.

Anyways, 12's are definitely my goal next summer. I think I could have hit them earlier this year with the 3.73's I had, but they whined way too much, and for every day driving on the highway, I wasn't as happy with them as I thought I would have been.

My buddy has 410s in his v6 to ls1 swap car. A4, 3k vig, lid and ASP pully. He went 12.8s at 106. Car only dynoed at 260rwhp, turns out his FP was bad. Next year should be 12.30/12.40 with a mostly stock car.

^^ I'd like to see 12.8's!! ^^

My dad is doing a bit of work to his car as well this winter. At the track we ran nearly identical 13.6's side-by-side. We're both raising the bar though, and I think we're still going to be in a close race, except hopefully both of us in the 12.5 - 12.8 range.

HEy Capn Pete

I thought you were doing the gears a while back. Maby you were just asking about them. If you want 12`s pick up a converter and a set of nittos and you will have mid 12`s. Im sure the gears will pick up a few tenths but IMO converters are by far the best mod for a A4 car. BTW my freind funs 410`s in her formula and she seems to like them. It is her daily driver. I used to have 3.73 but I blew that rear up and put a 3.42 in there. Good luck with the rear. Let us know how it works out.

I would do:

lid
filter
ftra
cutout
converter
drag radials

for low 12's.

4.10's are fun but a converter will drop et and you will get better gas mileage. I would do 4.10's if you had a h/c package that needed to buzz some rpms.

drag radials...getting them in the spring

for low 12's.

From what I've heard, converters are harder on trannies than gears are (gears have little effect as far as I'm concerned). Stall converters cause more heat build up in the tranny.

offaxis, yeah I did gears earlier this year (3.73's) but they were a bad set of Richmond's (I'm not blaming Richmond, but it was A bad set)..............they whined really bad. IMO, 4.10's are going to put the engine at a nice sweet spot crossing the line (unless I find out otherwise?! ).

Richmond has ALOT of bad sets...ive read for years here about guys breaking em...i also busted a set of there 373's, and those thing whined like my 8 mth old..50 dollar tranny cooler will take care of the tranny heat build up from the converter...id go w/ 373's and a 3500 stall
