Anyone running 28x13.5-15 MT ET streets?

Is anyone running the MickeyThompson ET Streets in the 28x13.5-15 on Weld 10" rims on their 4th gen? I currently run the 27x10.5-16 and have trouble hooking consistantly. The best 60ft. is 1.78 but most of the time it is in the 1.9_ range. I have about 525RWHP with N2O and can not hook good. I also have adj. torque arm, LCA, Comp. rear drag shocks, Ebiach drag springs/bag, rear battery mount, etc. Thanks, Ken

I have the 28 x 12.5 x 15s on welds (cragar Superlite IIs). 60 foots are in the 1.5s and they would take more if I had it.

I also have the Eibach drag springs and have Konis up front and sears stockers in back. Airbag on the passenger rear. I run 45 pounds in the fronts and 14 pounds in the back. I can hook on just about anything.

I know someone has tried these or some 325-50-15. I got a street twin and a 9 inch and I want to be able to consistantly dead hook. Thanks, Ken

I run the 325/50/15's and it took a little work to make them fit but not bad at all. I looked and they are alomst exactly the same dimensions as the 28x13.5's you are talking about. The only ohter problem maybe that the ET streets will grow with mph and the Radials don't. Later Clint

Thanks Clint,
I wonder how the 325 M/T drag radials will hook compared to my 27X10.5/16 ET streets? The car also wonders a lot at the top of the track. Do the M/T drag radials have this problem? Thanks, Ken

No, the radials are as steady as a street tire but with that 6 speed you maybe better off with a softer sidewall IE ET street. JMO Later Clint

Re: Anyone running 28x13.5-15 MT ET streets?

My 97 Z28 (396 LT stroker w/ auto and Vigilante 3200) currently has a 10 bolt w/ 3.73s and 26” tall ET Streets. It is showing 6100 RPM at the stripe on the factory tach (I think the factory tach reads high, probably around 5900 actual). The rev-limiter is set to 6600, so I’m currently leaving some performance on the table with only 5900 trap RPM. The low profile 26” ETs helps to keep me geared low in the ¼ and improves the trap RPM some, but not perfect. The current best run is 11.22 @ 119.3 w/ a 1.61 60ft (all N/A).

I will be installing a Moser 12 bolt off-season and also plan to go to 28” tall ETs, or 28” MT slicks for better and more consistent launches, but the 28s will drop my trap RPM even more. Therefore, I’m thinking I may go to 4.30s to get my trap RPM up to around 6500.

I’ve used the online drive-train calculators and most of them pick 4.30s, although, I also wanted to get some opinions here on the forum what everyone thinks, and/or what gears and tire height they are running and what combination has worked well for them.

Re: Anyone running 28x13.5-15 MT ET streets?

TH400 with approx 11% slip
4.10's
28x11.5-15 QTP's - 28.0" diameter, with approx 1/2" radius growth @ 125mph
7,200rpm redline
7,000rpm cutoff on nitrous

Running through the traps at 127-128mph with a 125-shot, at 6,850-6,950rpm.

I've yet to run with the full 300-shot, so I figure with traps approaching 140mph, I'll have to use the Gear Vendor O/D at the top end. I've also gone to 28x10.5-15W ET Drags, so I can (hopefully) spray the full 300 off the line. The ET Drags are actually larger in diameter than the advertised size (28.1") and took a lot of carving the leading edge off the rubber bumper cover.

With about 3/4" off the bumper (not enough):

Additional cut on the bumper. We took it up to 130+ MPH on the dyno and the tires grew enough to his the sheet metal point that is behind the bumper cover. That had to be hammered back.

One of my racing friends has a body shop, so he is going to professionally trim and reconstruct the rear bumper cover to allow the 28s to fit.

Also, I don't plan to use nitrous, engine only. So, with a 6600 rev-limiter, 28" ETs and 4.30 gears, w/ 10% TC slip, do you think the 4.30s will be too low (too high trap RPM) for my setup? 396 stroker w/ auto.
