Anyone running 11's on street tires?
It is very hard to hit 11s with street tires.
I have seen it done twice.
First time was when I was a freshman in high school and this guy had a white mustang gt(fox body). He had a cam, AFR heads(with extensive head work), gear, and a supercharger pushing 14 psi. I went to the track one time to watch him run. First run he made went something like 2.2060ft 12.12@120 mph. Well finally he managed to work the clutch well enough to get a 1.99 60ft and ran a 11.89@121mph. I would not have drove that car to save my life. He was running a true street tire, no drs or et slick or anything. I think they were goodyear eagles on 17inch cobra r rims.
Then I have a friend that is 17 and attends Cardinal Newman High School in South Carolina. His father owns the local dodgeland. My friend in highschool drives a 2001 Dodge Viper GTS. Well he ran a run that went like this- 1.9x 60ft and 11.9x@121mph.
I have 4.10 gear and can't come out of the low 13s on street tires.

I know a friend of mine has a ls1 with a 125 shot of gas and slicks. He runs 7.80s in the eigth. Another one of my friends runs two stages of gas on an ls1 and has been some 7.10s in the eigth but about two months ago while running the gas he separated his intake.

You have a friend in High School who has a Viper?!?
Anyway, to run 11's with street tires, you'll probably need a lot of power to get you down the very end of the DS as fast as possible as you'll be spinning or not going to WOT at the first half of the track. The track will need to be prepped very good to. This weekend I was spinning a few times on my 3rd to 4th gear change. The car that went down the strip before me might have leaked something on the track. It scared the crap out of me. I have 255/50/ZR16's (@16 psi) and posi. I think it will be easier to run 11's with an automatic because when I let off the gas, shift, and then floor it, it just wants to spin all over.

357 RS- Yea he got the car brand new when he was 16. It is a red 2001 GTS with a few mods. His dad owns the local dodgeland, but drives a 12 cylinder mercedes.
bgoins11 Trans Am- Is that with "true" street tires? What I mean is same tires that come on the car from the factory(No Drag Radials or Et Streets). I find it hard to imagine hitting 1.6 60ft times without power and traction. I know 3 guys that run 9s@140+ with Mickey Thompson ET Streets.

I read it, still hard to believe but not calling anyone a liar, I would just have to see it. I have been to the track many many times. I have seen Mickey Thompson Sportsmans turn 1.7 60ft times but they had a tread with of 13 inches.
His car would be alot faster with a stall and slicks. I don't know why he hasn't changed it.

my 3900 lb., NA 74 firebird ran 12.02 last week on ET streets. i'm hoping it'll make an 11 second pass this wednesday night. the 60 ft. on that pass was 1.668. on "true" street tires, my 60 ft. times would be 2.0's or worse.
Believe it or not my N/A run in my sig, was done on the Factory F-1's I have on my car now?
I've gotten a lot of 1.9's and a 1.8 when they prep the track?

Yeah, it can be done. I love running true street tires. Saves on parts breakage. My previous Malibu with with a 400 SBC and a plate nitrous kit sneaked into the 11s on Dunlop all season radials. 2.0 60 foot time.
My current Malibu with the 383 and blower should be good for only a low 12, though- it's just not as strong. Yet. It's also run only on true street radials- no DRs, no slicks. It still has the original 7.5" rear in it so you know I'm not gonna be doing any Bansai launches.
Taking a full 2 seconds to cover the first 60 feet doesn't leave much time to complete the rest of the track. You need a LEGITIMATE 450 HP and a boatload of torque to get the job done in a street car of typical weight. Now if you can get it down to, say, 3000 lbs., the job's a lot easier. My 'Bu weighs about 3650 with me in it.
Steep gears? Forget 'em. No help whatsoever. You'll just spin worse. My old Malibu and my current one have 2.92 rear gears and a stock stall converter in the TH350 trans. The key is to be able to get the pedal all the way to the floor in 1st gear and be right on the edge of the tire's adhesion all through first. You want the hardware to do the work, not be feathering the gas with your right foot. Just my experience.

I found a article I had read about a month ago. The guy has a 99 ACR Viper with a Paxton supercharger. It makes 750 rear wheel horsepower and still has the stock camshaft in it. They ran on his bald Michelin Pilot tires(not drs or slicks) and ran 11.5s with a 2.0 60ft. When he was able to get a 1.8 60ft time on the Michelin Pilot the viper hit 10s(first 10 sec run was a 10.999 then it went a 10.92@134)) on true street tires. That is awesome, to be able to run 10s on non drs or slicks.

But hey...If that guy is getting those times...thats cool as hell, I know my buddy would love to get the same out of his A4 LS1!!
