Anyone with a built 3rd gen
Anyone with a built 3rd gen
What do you run in the 1/4? I am curious because my school is building a full race car out of a 3rd gen. I am very active in getting it funded and multiple sponsors have asked what it will run etc.
We have a fully stripped 83 camaro and are in the process of putting in a built 350 with a th400 or maybe 700r4 (I think those were the two choices). It will be high compression motor and run on race fuel. Like I said it is gutted except for a roll cage and the two racing seats. It is going to be trailered but I don't know what kind of power it will be putting out. It wont be mild but probably not too wild either.
I have no idea what it will run. Can anyone give me a rough estimate of our car or tell me what yours runs and leave your sig. so that I can tell the potential sponsors something better than, "I really couldn't even guess."
Thanks for your help.

Go take a look at my web pages.
Since you're building a race car, stay away from the 700R4. It's a street tranny with poor gear ratios for drag racing. The TH400 is a better choice. A powerglide would also be a good race tranny.
It's hard to say what it will run without knowing what's going to be in it. Compression ratio, heads, camshaft, torque converter stall speed, tranny selection, rear end gearing, tire size and finally the total weight of the finished car with driver will all determine just how fast it could go.
There's no reason why it couldn't be a low 12 second car with the possibility of getting into the 11's. It's all going to depend on the final selection of parts. There's more to building a race car than just building a high HP engine. Everything else about the car must be set up to handle all that extra HP.
I ran a 10.2:1 engine on 92 pump gas for the last 2 years. I dropped a valve at the end of this season. My new buildup is going to be a 13:1 engine running on alcohol.
