95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
My 95 Z28 manages a 115 mph trap speed, but only a 12.7 ET... something is wrong here...
Not too sure if i want to get stickies due to stock 10 bolt and spec stage 3 clutch.
Best ET run went like this:
60': 2.23
1/8mile ET 8.447
1/8mile MPH 90.9
1/4mile ET 12.745
1/4mile MPH 114.966
On this run, i launched at about 3200 rpm, slipping the clutch a bit (but still not having any traction...)
Unfortunatly, i'm a bit limited as to what i can do to make it hook better and make it down the 1320 in less time. I have a 4" mufflex exhaust, and know that the a torque arm that mounts anywhere but the trans won't fit, a 12bolt/9" is too pricey for now, and aside from a small N2O shot, i'm running out of ideas...

Re: 95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
With real tires and a real rear you should easily be cutting 1.6 sixty foot times. I do. That will make a .5 second difference in your sixty foot, at leat which will probably translate to .7-.9 at the other end depending on a whole lot of variables. Thats your high 11's-low 12's...
Re: 95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
IMO you need to hook the car. Kinda scary with the stock rear. I cut 1.50 -1.60 60' with Hoosier QTP tires and the 12 bolt. I don't think you pick up much ET if you spray, just MPH.
Re: 95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
I had over 100 passes on my 10-bolt in the '97 with 3.73s, running 12.4 @ 112 and the rearend was still together when I sold the car. Put a tire on the car and see what happens.
Re: 95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
TNT, what else did you have done to your car suspension wise to cut 1.7 on DRs? Also, I take it that was a BFG, not a nitto? I'd be happy to see a 1.8 on my nittos. Best so far is 2.0xs.
Re: 95 Z 383 gets high mph, slow ET
I was cutting 1.7 sixty foot times back when I had the following:
1 5/8 Edelbrock headers
Moroso Cold Air
3.73's
6 speed
BFG Drag Radials
52mm Throttle Body
CNC, Inc. Heads
Mild Cam
Adjustable front Koni's set loose
Stock rear shocks
Line Loc
Otherwise it was basically stock, as in stock water pump, stock block, no MSD, stock rear, stock springs, battery was still in the front, no roll bar, no racing seats, had not yet removed the bumper supports or air conditioning...
I think Mickey Thompson Drag Radials would be better than the BFG's...

here is my .02....
slipping the clutch is a bad practice to get into, this will cause you clutch to wear prematurely. lsipping creates heat...heat kills clutches!
put a tire on, at least a DR, key is to turn the tire over when you launch! have a friend watch and give feedback as to how much tire spin you are getting, and adjust your launch rpm. plus by spinng the tire you get the car moving and reduce the shock to the entire drivetrain when it hooks. if you dead hook you can kiss your stock 10 bolt good bye. also depending on how much tire spin you are getting it might hurt your mph..a wee bit.
g'luck!
