93Z Help With Bracket Racing!!!!!

Alright so i bought my fiance a 93Z a couple months ago that was in rough shape (appearance wise). we cleaned it up threw some new paint on it and it looks great! Ok now about the mechanicals of the car. It has a stock LT1 in it with a CAI/flowmaster Catback. Brand new tranny with a shift kit, brand new rear end with 4:10's, and also brand new rear suspension (all stock but its all new). Nitto 555r's in the rear.
First time trial it'll run a 14.2X, then itll jump up to a 14.5X, then first round itll go a 14.8X. I couldnt figure it out at all. I have a 94Z M6 and it still wasnt that inconsistent.

We took it out this past sunday where the wait in between rounds was longer so itd have more time to cool down and it worked!! running a 14.5X consistently 3 times in a row.

I dont know much about the 93's but i know they were built differently than the 94's computer wise.

anyone know of any other way to make this thing consistent computer/chip wise or anything else???

please help, shes a 2 time track champion and is getting extremely discouraged with the new car.

Re: 93Z Help With Bracket Racing!!!!!

sorry I didn't see the post.

The LT1 is very touchy in regurads to water temp. Its critical to maintain the same temp each run. I have an electric water pump and have a manual switch for it and the radiator fan. I can turn both on (with the engine not running) and I'm able to get it back to 170 degrees in about 5 minutes. I also have a 160 thermostat but have better results with just a restrictor (pulled the guts out of the thermostat). My tune is also on the rich side which helps controls the ET spikes.

I always run everthing full warmed up.... I 'm on the converter heating the trans up in staging lanes almost every time. Eng and trans temp 180 eng water 170-175. If my water temp gots up to 185 I loose .04 on ET. I have a full tenth in the bank and can make up for the jump in water temp on the fly. I normally make all my runs shifting at 5400. I can pick up a tenth by moving the shift points to 6400. So reguardless to what I dial I still can pick up a tenth when needed. The old school manual shift turbo 400 has its place.

All else fails just dial way soft and have her drive the stripe (break pedal).

^^^^ As he said,LT1's are very heat sensitive and don't like to be hot lapped.

Do you have a tranny cooler on it?
