2.73's to 3.73s

Last fall I had 3.73's put in to replace the 2.73's that were
in the car. It was a night and day difference! However, after
some passes at the track it seems to only have helped my
times out by a small margin. I'm going to have to guess that
it was my tires which were set to 32, and the fact that they
were Kumho Ecstas.

..it did seem to spin more going in to second gear as well.

13.7 slip:__________13.5 slip:

R/T .614____________.770
60' 2.17_____________2.07
1/8 8.97____________8.76
MPH 80.73___________81.18
1/4 101.75_________ 103.50*

*fastest time was 104

what do you guys think of the times?

It looks like you gained a couple mph, but if you look at your 60fts, you didn't really drop much time if any. What was the weather like on each day?

you lost 1 tenth off you 60ft, 2 tenths and 2mph. not bad for a gear swap. Now you just need a stall. That will really wake things up.

it was probably high 50's that night. I would think that going from 2.73's to 3.73's would make a bigger difference!

I gained 3 tenths back when I was stock and made that swap
but 2-3 tenths sounds about right

I will tell you one thing if you get a 3000ish stall and dr`s you will run 12.8-12.9 if you are at 103 mph already

Now.. if I were to get a stall.. does that mean that I would have to rev it up to 3k to even move the car?

no no , the stall will still move the car at low rps , might take more throttle to pull away from stop lights
the 3000 stall would be flash up or kicking from idol

that flash helps cars launch off the line by getting the engine into the power band sooner

I read that the converters stall speed listed is the absolute max the motor can be held back until the wheels break. So just keep that in mind, just because you have a 3k stall does not mean it wont move long before that.

If you had any traction issues, the added torque at the wheels of having a higher gear is almost useless...

Anything under a 3400 stall is basically not noticable....except for when you put your foot all the way down and then you notice....It's quicker....or...it's killing the tires!!

Sticky tires...converter...100 shot...<---that's my advice....always. Goodluck!

an example of how a stall works is this.On my car I have a 5200 and a tranny brake when I put my finger on the tranny brake to hold the car I take my foot off the normal brake then I floor the gas pettle right to the mat and the rpms will just sit there at 5200 and wont go above kinda like it is sitting on a rev limiter or 2 step soon as I let go of that button the car will leave at 5200 rpm.
If I am just driving normal the car will putt around at idle no problem and if you apply a little more gas at launch it take a bit more rpm to get moving but nothing to noticeable

Another thing.. I still have the stock rims, and the fattest tires I could find are 265's. Would that even make much of a difference from my 245's?
