2.4 is my best 60'....... help me! and need more help too.

Well last night was the first night of street legals here, and I had a great time and ran a 14.201 @ 99.8 mph

for a track thats at 3000' I think thats not to bad for stock.

But my best 60' was 2.449
what can I do to get that down? a buddy was there with bald walmart special tires and was getting 2.204
I've got firehawks on the rear.
I've got compta's should I put them on the back?

Also, I have a dyno graph of my car, and the ]tq curve is flate from 2200 rpm to 4500 rpm and by 5500 rpm has dropped about 50 ft lbs.
So should I be shifting at 4500 rpm?

if you are there wsith a friend have them watch when you launch, it sounds like you are blowing the tires completely off, lol! not something that i haven't done before

when you launch you only need a couple of revolutions in the tire. then preferably it should hook and you should go. launch much lower than what you were, or slip the clutch as you launch. where is your peak horsepower, that is close to where you want to shift. i shift just below peak power, i give my self about 100 rpm buffer for my reaction to the shift light.

practice makes perfect that is the fun part of it, at least for me it is! after all that is why enjoy it so much!

peak HP is between 5000 and 5500 rpm
so that is where I want to shift?

I have a video of a run that was very similar, a touch slower, but felt the same, and there isnt much spin at all.

ps, its in the mail taner.

if your peak rwhp is, then i usually shift about 100 rpm before it. hope that helps. for example, i shift at 6700 rpm right now. use your dyno sheet to help pyou out, being a stock motor i wouldn't shift it beyond 5200 or so rpm.

hmmmm, does the car bog when you launch, also at what rpm do you launch at? if there is no spin then you are bogging or you aren't launching hard enough. it is always tough to decipher, trying to explain it over the internet, lol!

ya I know over the net is hard,
I'm trying to get a video up.

I launch off idle, I can feel the rear kinda loose through first, but with hte exception of off the line doesnt feel like too much spinning.

I went to the track for my first time yesterday and I was able to cut a 2.1 60ft on bald comptas, and a track known for bad launches. (My best out of 4 runs). I rev it to 3k rpm and ride the clutch out, it worked just fine. I gave the tires just a little spin after the burnout box just to clean the dirt off the tires.

However my best ET was only a 14.5 so im a bit disappointed as well

maybe you have a bad posi? (doubtful on a low mileage car though)

I used to launch between 2200 and 2500 depending on track conditions, and slip the ever-living-crap outta the clutch for a 2.18 to a 2.22 with old comp TA's. That was with the first 383 though I guess. But really tame heads on that one too.

I just felt sorry for that clutch is all.

This time of year you can't ask for too much here in Alberta.
