I only got one run tonight with my new DR's and Madz28 tune. Still disappointing , but considering I have made a dozen passes (total over the summer so far), this one was my best, and on the first try.

.119 r/t
2.367 60'
14.564 1/4 @ 98.97 ... so I gained about .15 off my last BEST and 2.5 mph....I still need to work on my launch for some reason. Tonight I had a 9 second car next to me and I was pretty nervous, lol ; I cant even tell you what I launched at or if it bogged because all I could hear was HIS car!!!

Seems like if I can get a 2.0 launch....the car has a 13.7 in it---

Here is a pic of the car I raced, thats me standing by the fence in the hat (by the green garbage can, lol)

What tire pressure did you run in your DR?

Just reading your sig:
96' z28 LE2 heads/cam stroker, 6spd, 125 shot of Zex
? Is that correct?

2.367 60'
14.564 1/4 @ 98.97

That looks awfully stock even with a bad 60'...

I ran 28psi because they were pretty loose driving to the track and I didnt want it to get worse on the way home ( city roads are BAD here ). The contact patch went from side to side though on the way down (25 mile highway).

I fixed my sig, it is confusing a few people, those are mods that I have purchased and are on the waiting list to get installed at my local shop.

Right now my mods are :

KN CAI, Gran Maf, 1le elbow, Air Foil, Underdrive Pulleys, Madz28 Tune, edelbrock shorties, 3" y pipe with cats, 3" catback to a flowmaster muffler, ET MT DR's, centerforce stage 2 clutch, short throw shifter, torque arm, lca's, relocation brackets, panhard rod. The car has 137k miles on it...I think its all in the launch....I want to try 3k but think I was somewhere around 2200 lastnight....I couldnt hear for crap and didnt want to miss the light to stare at my tach (or burn through my first run...I still dont have faith in these DR's yet ... it was my first run with them ) ---

I like how your first ET was identical to my first ET (in your sig) ... that is giving me some faith , and you had an auto ---

I understand your concerns on the highway but IMHO 28psi is too much pressure if your trying to hook at the track. Does the track you go to have an air pump? If so, just lower the tire pressures only when your at the track and raise them back up for the commute. I lower my rear tire pressures down 15-18psi.

Money does alot.

My car is a caprice which is heavier then your car and you should be running alot faster then I did once you get your 60' foot figured out. That 14.97 run was on street tires with an 1.99 60' foot @ a low 90's mph. You are crossing line @ 98 mph which tells me you have alot more in your car.

Here is some inspiration for you. When I eventually got an 98mph trap speed I was running a 13.7xx at that point. I see no reason why you shouldn't be in the high 13's once you get your 60's down and some good weather.

They say for every tenth your gain on your 60' in two tenths in the 1/4.
With your times a 1.9 60' foot will net you a 13.7.

28 PSI is way to high. If the track does not have an air compressor you can always carry a small one. I would drop the pressure on the rears to around 15 PSI and inflate the front tires to the maximum PSI listed on them. That should help you out some for sure.

You guys ROCK ... thanks again for the advice, there is so much to learn. I go by myself and everyone lastnight had their own "crew" it was funny. I will search for a compressor or get one for the cig lighter. I was talking to a guy with mt/et's on 15's running 18 psi lastnight (ls1 trans am; I am running 275/40/17's...would I still go as low?) ... but the track was closed at that point, and he was swapping back to stock wheels.

13.7's sound GREAT ---

Just go to walmart, that's where I got my from. They may take longer to fill the tires but they work.

Start at about 20 psi and work your way down ''if'' you have to.

...I agree with Al...with the 17" ET radials I'd start at 20 psi..Give them some heat...If you can, have a friend watch you roll thru the water and help you do your burnout...I can't tell you how many people I see starting the burnout IN the water box and all it does is sling water all over your wheel well...Roll through the water and start your burnout on the other side...Have your friend watch for a good amount of smoke, making sure BOTH wheels are spinning, then run the car right up to the line, no dry hops, etc...The rest is up to you and how your car reacts...

I will add that you may have better results going with a 255 50 R16 DR on a stock 16x8" wheel...More side wall will help a stick car hook...

You don't need to buy an air compressor. The track has one over by the gas pumps. I should be out there in a couple of weeks. If you are there I will try and watch you run. Also what rpm do you shift at? When my car was stock I used to run 14.2's @ 98 all day long shifting at 5800. I purchased a HPP and raised my rev limiter to 6200 so I could leave it in third thru the traps. My times instantly went down to 13.8's @102. That was with 2.0-2.1 60's. With 4.10's and alot of practice I wittled it down to the low 1.90's and ran in the 13.30's with the mph in the 106 range. Just like the others have stated. Practice, practice, practice.
