Wink 12's! ..... it's about time!!

Only 5 years, 5 gear ratios, 2 transmissions, and dozens of passes later!

Went down to Cayuga (aka, Toronto Motorsports Park) on Saturday, and this is what I ran:

12.878 @ 110.15 mph! 1.940 60'

I also ran:

- 12.971 @ 110.97, 2.100 60'
- 12.968 @ 110.26, 2.033 60'
- 12.999 @ 110.49, 2.032 60' (<-- that was my first 12.xxx EVER!!! ... gotta love the .999!! )

I ran a total of 12 passes, 4 of which were in the 12's, the others ranged from 13.007 to 13.663 (2 missed shifts, and a few bad launches ). Oh, and I was running with BFG drag radials ... 255/50/16 on a pair of salad shooters.

This past winter, I bolted on a set of Jet Hot long tubes, ORY, a Magnaflow cat-back, and installed Motive 3.90 gears into the back. The power is definitely there now ... fastest I've ever run before was 107.65 mph, so my speed is up ~2.5 - 3 mph .

The car still has more in it ... I don't have the line-lock hooked up at the moment, and it was only on my last run of the day that I side-stepped the brake and gas, and did a burn out to warm up the tires ... that got me the 1.94 60' time and the 12.87 ... I think if I warmed up the tires even more and launched harder, it should pull down into the 1.8xx's and probably ~12.7's or maybe ~12.6's???

Rock on little LS1!!!

Thanks dude . Considering I ran my previous best 13.02 back in 2004, it's been a frustrating couple of seasons basically not doing ANYTHING to the car, only getting to the track once or twice, and still eyeing that "12.xxx" like it's a gold medal or something! Feels good to finally hit it, and hit it pretty good .

For sure ... not sure when the next time I'll get down there is, but I'd like to get out AT LEAST once more this season. Although, looking at your sig ...

Congrats. It's really satisfying hitting 12's.

I had a really hard time with my heads/cam setup. Couldn't understand why I wasn't getting 12's. mph was ~115. Finally inspected the clutch and bingo. Clutch plate and pressure plate completely scored. Stock clutch on 400 rwhp dosen't last long

While I was in there I decided I'd just rebuild and add some boost.

I may see you at the track sometime, but it may be short since I'll get kicked off after I do a low 11/high 10 sec pass!! No cage.

Congrads on getting in the 12's. I just got there too and I was just as excited as you are. Now my goal is to stay in the 12's all year long. I don't think my car is up to that goal yet but we will see.

Congrads again.

Just start in 2nd . I'm sure you could still run low 12's!! Yeah, maybe I'll see ya down there sometime?

Thanks everyone else for the good words! Feel free to post your own "milestone" stories .

Thanks a lot. I am pretty sure the extra cubes (383) also helped get this big thing moving.

The first day I went to the track I was actually hoping the car would run an "13.5" because my PCM is programmed to short shift the 2/3 shift. When the 2/3 shift was set to 6100 the tranny wouldn't shift at WOT.

Honestly, on the first run the car didn't feel like it was going much faster then my previous best with the original LT1 350 13.7. At the starting line the car did something that it hasn't did in a while, it slipped coming out. I was racing a very slow Honda civic so that didn't help give me an ideal how fast I was going. My digital speedo isn't working either so I couldn't look at the MPH going down the track. I couldn't tell you how surprised I was to see the 12.8 ET 1.75 60' time slip.

The car has more in it since all 4 of my 12.7 runs have been with a 1.8 sixty foot time. My first two runs down the track I got 1.75 and 1.74 sixty foot times but only ran a 12.8 because the tranny was shifting into 4th right before the Traps. Car has slipped coming out everytime down the track since I got this stroker installed. More practice and better drag radials should fix that issue.

Congrads again on breaking the 12 barrier and thanks again.

^ ^ If it's shifting to 4th, why not just keep the shifter in 3rd and rev it out a little more?? I'm sure the engine could take the extra ~couple hundred RPM's?

..... btw, nice way to mis-lead people!! ("oh yeah, forgot to mention the 383 part ")
