11.15 @ 123mph , transmission issues..

well, went to the track tonite, mostly just for fun since ive never gotten the car to hook at GV'll on nittos. but i get there, make a soft pass and it felt like it was hooking. made another pass, little harder on the launch. went 12.25 @ 111.28 with a 1.79 60ft on the motor. im thinking damn that hooked good, but wtf is up with 111mph? i mean my car is no beast on motor but 111 just isnt right. 1/8th mile E.T. is about the norm, mph is a hair off in the 1/8th. im still thinking maybe its in the tune, so ill see how it does on the bottle.

i upped the jets in the dry kit this week to 175 (i dont think the nozzle/solenoid actually pickup this much power). go out, make another pass with an even harder launch...

11.15 @ 123.20 with 1.76 60ft. i got the timeslip and was expecting 127mph or so and i bout damn lost it. the car went 11.2 @ 123 a month ago with a 100 shot and i havent changed anything other than the jets. then i looked at the 1/8th it was 7.21 @ 99.14 , it was 3 mph faster in the 1/8th than last time, and resulted in the same trap speed??? ehhh something's f'ed up...

then i started thinking, while i was in 3rd, it was stuck high in the RPM's, and i crossed the traps at about 6,600rpms, which is WAY off for a car with 3.42 gears and 26' tires. so needless to say put 2 and 2 together and the f'in tranny is slippin like a bitch.

got my friend at american transmissions on the phone today, he said there is a new clutch/band pack that is out for mine and we're going to try that. its already got a billet servo, and other goodies, so he claims it will hold with the new stuff. i dont know, ill give it a try, if not, then ill be swapping to a 6spd.

Darrell,

111 is not right at all, your set up, I imagine you should be hitting 117-119 on motor alone. High 120s low 130s on the 175 shot. 1.7 sixty was that leaving on the spray? Doesnt seem like your car is leaving hard enough for a 175 shot ontires. About the 4L60s, after talking to Speedmiser on here about his 93, it doesnt seem like its even worth building up, he went through a couple "built" 4L60s from a reputable nationally known shop. If your tranny is toast I could see the low traps and crappy sixty foots. Oh well, good luck man!

i know 111mph is way off. this car trapped 116.9mph 3 years ago with the exact same parts, only difference is its a little heavier now with 17 inch ROH rims, and i put the A/C back on it. the tune in it now sucks also, it was a quickie job to get it running and now the guy i use to cut my chips is out on the boat for a while. but either way it should trap better, it has before.

no that was grabbing the bottle in 2nd i was on 17 inch nitto DR's, so i wasnt really "on tires". 1.76 60ft is pretty good though to me for being on nittos.

i know about the 4L60's and making power, but he claims with this new stuff he can make it hold... he's gonna go thru it for $300 parts and labor, so i cant really go wrong. plus, he had his 95 Z running couple years ago and it was running low low 11's on motor and trapping almost 125mph, and he had a 4L60 the whole time so maybe he can make it work.

either way, ill be sure to keep yall posted on how the new tranny holds up, and i can't wait to see how it does when it's fresh, and im also going to a NX kit instead of the dry NOS kit.
