1/4 mile times? I'm confused.

I am kind of confused to 1/4 mile times I have been seeing. I have a 02 Z28 with catback and airlid. 2:73 gears and a A4. So basically I have about the least performace possible besides if it was a convertible. I also have around 500 pounds additional weight in car and ground fx, plus every option and T tops. I took the car to the track on Saturday and did 4 runs. With a best of 13.5 and a crappy 2.2 something 60ft time at 104 mph. I am a crappy driver, I have no idea how to launch and I kept hitting the rev limiter. I have no doubt the Z will hit a 13.1 with traction and when I figure out he best shift point. How come all these people I see with more h.p and better gears seem to do around the same 1/4 times. I had the car dyno'd today and only hit 283.4 h.p and 313.2 torque. Which I only did one pull and could be more than that. It doesn't make sense to me.

It also may depend on track conditions, weather, altitude and many other factors as well. Where I live at we have the crappiest altituded conditions around! We had a few cars from here that went to the SLP day and ran .50 to .70 faster at that track !

It could have been a bad pull. I only did it once, guess I will see later when I add some more bolt ons. I was a happy camper with the 13.5, I never thought with those gears I'd drop below 13.7, hopefully when I get the LCA's and SFC's it will hook up better and drop the 60 foot times. This is my first Camaro, and only had it for 2 months, so still learning about them.

Exclamation

One quick note. Quit shifting that thing. Put it in "D" or "OD" and leave it there. No matter how good you might be at shifting you'll never be better than the computer. Let it do it's job and you'll be happy with the results.
A note on 1/4 mile ETs and MPH. It's cool to compare your times against other like cars on the net. But it is so invalid that it isn't funny. If you want to compare apples to apples then compare your times to simular cars on the same day at the same track.
My car can vary 4 to 5 tenths of a second at the same track depending upon the weather conditions and track prep. Now throw in the huge variable track elevation and the times can vary as much as 2 to 3 seconds, with the same car and setup.
Be realistic and you'll never be dissapointed with your car.
Have fun.

I beg to differ, lubbock has the worst altitude and conditions...lol.....typical 6000 DAs aren't cool!!

A4 - leave it in "D" not "OD" for best results.

I would question the accuracy of the tracks timing system.

I agree with that. Best mods to do on your car: Gears!!! Going from 323's to 373's gave me 3 tenths. Cost about $4-500 out the door.

Next mod: ET streets. After the gears traction will be a big problem.

Next mod: Converter!! A PTS 9X11 will really wake the car up!! Cost about $800-1000 installed

Next mod: Long tube headers.

After that you'll be in the 12's easy. Maybe even a lot sooner. You could also work on lightening the car up to improve ET's.

I forgot one thing

If you want to order a TC now here is a link:

http://www.2004rperformancecenter.co...eme+Converters

Just fill out the spec sheet and they will recommend a custom built TC that is BADASS

Don't get too caught up in dyno #s. I've seen a ls1 camaro dyno at 270ish rwhp and the next day run low 12s. Could've been the th400 and high stall that skewed his numbers though.

Big Dave you're right I made 331hp and ran 11.40's. Now that was thru a unlocked Vig3200 and 12bolt rear but 331 is still on the low side. Frank95z

6,000 feet, OUCH! I thought our usual 2,200-2,400 was bad.

most of the guys i know that have gen 4.2 run in the 13.2-13.5 during the middle of the season...to put up a 13.5 when temps are optimal arent really a suprise to me even with a heavier car...your mph is right where it should be and with traction harder to find on cold ground with street tires your 60's are not great but understandable so i say get some 3.42's or 3.73's and run a 12 next time out.
