Will this work?
I just installed a hot cam and other goodies on my lt1. It is in desperate need of tuning. My friend has the same year with just about the same mods and has had it tuned really good. Can i take datamaster and log a run on his car, then copy the information into tunercat and load it onto my computer?
He got a a base tune from mti then a dyno tune on top of that but doesn't use a program like lt1edit or tunercat. Would i still be able to copy it with just tunercat?
Serperate tunercat question:
Can i purchase tunercat once but use it on two different laptops?

As far as I understand, once the PCM is flashed, TunerCat will not know if it was flashed by TunerCat itself, the GM factory, or a program Joe made in his garage... they're all the same. So, you should be able to just read his PCM and flash the file to yours. Also... if you don't mind, could you email the calibration file to me when you get it? The email is tomnjery@optonline.net ... I'm just curious to see what tables were changed, as I too may be installing a hot cam in the near future and am new to programming
And for your second question... you can use the same registration numbers of TunerCat on two separate computers. Not sure if it's legal or piracy or what not but the program will still run nevertheless...

I wont be able to get his file for a while but when i do i will see if i can email to you. Just remember, we are tuning at 5,000' elevation and everything will be much different than at say sea level.
Thanks for that info though, that is exactly what i needed to know!

We have a misunderstanding of how tuning works. Copying a datamaster log, or viewing one, has nothing to do with values that you plug into Tunercat or LT1 Edit.
What you could do, is use FLSHREAD on his car, to copy the tune to a file, and then use FLSHPROG to transfer this to your car. Tunercat is NEITHER VIN locked, or limited to number of laptops, however sharing it with friends is technically piracy, meaning why do you need it on 2 laptops anyway?
As long as his car's PCM was not locked (Ed Wright, etc), then you should be able to read it and use it just fine. From there you can do any fine tuning if the BLMs are off, and THAT is when you will be using Freescan or Datamaster for clues on what to change.

His computer is not locked so that isn't a problem.
The reason i asked about two laptops is that i have two laptops and would like to download the program on my current laptop but don't have access to this one over the summer so i would need to use my other which is 1000 miles away

Technically speaking, any software you purchase is only suppose to be licensed to one computer, requiring seperate purchases and licenses for each computer you install to. But who cares about technically. Put it on as many computers as you want, you paid for it, you should be able to do whatever you want with it. You should see my computers. I don't think I've bought software since, oh, I don't know, 1998. But I always seem to have up-to-date software and games on my computers.
