Will a "hypertech scanner" read ses codes?
Will a "hypertech scanner" read ses codes?
So im considering buying a hypertech although im not really sure why...
My SES light came on yesterday, but wont seem to come on again, so I'd like to be able to scan my car for codes...
However, i've also got the stock governer at about 110 mph that i'd like to get rid of, as well as program my fans for my 160 thermostat.
Reading through summit it says the Hypertech can do a lot of things, but i couldnt find any mention of scanning for codes.
If a hypertech wont work, what are my other options?
Or should I avoid a hypertech all together, are there other options in general?

I don't remember any LT1 HPP3s showing or clearing codes (it will clear them if you program your car though), unless they have the optional scanning module.
Re: Will a "hypertech scanner" read ses codes?
Anybody have a link to any of these options besides a hypertech?? cant seem to find much information..
I want to be able to adjust my tire/rim size myself, as well as read/clear ses codes, and remove the stock speed governer. Those are my biggest concerns.

The Hypertech will scan codes and sensors with the optional scan cartridge. But the scan cartridge was only available for OBD-II Hypertech programmers.
There's not a lot of advantage in being able to "clear" codes. You can accomplish that simply by pulling the "PCM BAT" fuse (end of the dash panel in your 94) for 30 seconds. And the code will simply reappear if the problem that cuased it hasn't been fixed. The one small advantage of clearing it with a code scanner is that fact that you will not lose your "learned" long term fuel corrections like you will by pulling the power to the PCM.

HPP3 does not read codes without (as mentioned) and additional module, for additional cost.
HPP3 has almost ZERO effect on engine power despite high claims (I've personally compared a stock and HPP "power" program and found almost NO difference)
Tunercats and an AKM cable (highest cable is <$100, tunercats $79, definition file $20) will put you at LOWER cost than a HPP3, and you can do ANYTHING you want to with your program. There is a lot of support for the DIYer on here, myself included. It's NOT as hard as you think, and with Freescan you can read codes yourself (note the FREE in freescan).
I hate paying companies for little or nothing just because they have a "name". This is the case that I have found with the HPP3. You can do SO much more for SO much less.

I also have freescan and a purchased copy of CATS Tuner for my 95. I had to buy a cable and laptop computer to use it unless I wanted to move my PC within reach of the cable. There's more than a short learning curve to use the tuning software whatever it is and that is why people pay the tuners good money to do it for them. I'm not looking for an argument but rather to give correct information as best I can.
Re: Will a "hypertech scanner" read ses codes?
I didn't even think about the laptop... I assume everyone has one (my bad). Although before I got my PCMCIA card working I DID pull up to my window to tune (yeah go ahead and laugh).
I had a HPP3 for my 95 before.. It didn't read codes. Maybe the newer ones do. Or maybe just the ones for the LSx cars do. Someone may have an answer there.

More than sure. I actually sold it years ago, but now have ANOTHER one HPP3)that came with the second car I just bought. Not that I'd ever use it.. but I might hook it up to see if it will still work and then sell it.

I have no idea, it's on the box at home. I can post it tomorrow evening if you would like. Probably the same number as this guys':

Maybe this one:

Shows a part number of 30026.

Okay, I'm convinced. Apparently hypertech re-introduced the programmer as 30026 for the same cars. I have the old version, 345752 like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/hyper...QQcmdZViewItem
When I look at the manual online at hypertech.com the 30026 has PP2 at the top of the PDF document but then it shows Hypertech III a step down. The instructions for this document are exactly like mine (HPP2).
