why won't freescan show my codes?

I dont have my car all of the way back together but I just got my cable from AKM and wanted to try it out with freescan. The trottle body is off of the car (and the air intake etc.) and several sensors are unplugge (MAF, IAT, TPS). There is a service engine light (Which I expected) but freescan is saying "no reported faults" or something like that. I'm sure I am throwing several codes, so what is the deal? Do I need to have the car running?

Thanks
Dustin

What year is your car? If it is a 92-93 LT1, for some reason Freescan doesn't seem to work too well with those years. If it is a 94-95 you should be able to pull the codes with the car either set to On or running, it shouldn't matter which.

It is a 95 z28, so I think it should have worked. It definately connected, the bytes sent and recieved were changing and the status messages box was scrolling through a bunch of stuff. The car must be throwing a dozen codes with all of the stuff that is unplugged. I will have it back together in a day or two and see what happens then. I don't know why it didnn't read the codes though.
