What's neede to tune OBD1/OBD2 LT1's?

A lfriend (local LSx tuner) is looking into the LT1 tuning market and needed some info on exactly what's needed for tuning the LTx platform. I've heard about LT1Edit and TunerCATS but I'm not sure which is better or is applicable to one or all platforms. Last time I looked into it there were two different softwares for the OBD1 and OBD 2 cars, but I haven't kept up much with the LT1 stuff so I don't know if there were any new products out there.

What exactly is needed or where can I order a complete kit or any other valuable information that I can pass on to my friend?

Thanks!

OBD 1 is UART
OBD 2 is J1850 VPW

There is no need to reinvent the wheel TunerCats OBD 1 software is the only way to go.

As far as OBD2 is concerned TC sold the rights of there OBD2 tuner to JET. It's now labeled Dynamic Spectrum Tuner (DST).
Lt1 edit was last updated to verion 2.2 a few years back,
LT1 edit is vin locked as well as the DST.
The TC version is locked by year/ model.

There are three variants:

92-93 uses a removable PROM.
94-95 uses an EEPROM.
96-97 is OBD2 with EEPROM

For 92-95 Tunercat is the obvious choice.

For 96-97 he can probably use the same software he uses now.

I would think that somebody who is an "LSx tuner" would be able to find this information pretty readily...
