what is your WOT timing?

A friend of mine recently got a hold of a board members tune whos car pulled around 400 rwhp on the dyno just to see how much different it was than ours. the car had a 230/236 ported heads... as well as my friends. i only have the 224/230 but i dont think the tune would be THAT different from what i could use on my car. anywho heres the comparisons... interesting to say the least. my tune was from a reputable PCM programmer who many people on here use. and a little FYI he does NOT sponser this board... so theres a hint for those who know anything about the guys who do this kinda work.

400-7000 rpm at 100 KPA

the order is... my original file..the 230/236 file...my combination of them both.

20........... 22........... 20
20........... 22........... 21
20........... 22........... 22
21........... 24........... 23
22........... 26........... 24
23........... 27........... 26
27........... 27.5........ 27
30........... 28........... 28.5
33........... 29........... 29.5
35........... 29.5........ 31.5
36........... 30........... 32
37........... 30........... 32.5
37.5........ 30.5........ 33
37.5........ 30.5........ 33
37........... 30.5........ 33.5
38........... 30.5........ 33.5
36.5........ 30.5........ 33.5
36.5........ 31.5........ 34
36.5........ 32........... 34
36.5........ 33........... 34.5
35........... 34........... 35
35........... 34........... 35

which one do you guys think is the best? at it appears i was running nearly 8 degrees more timing at places in my car than in the 230/236 file which is quite a difference! please feel free to post your 400-7000 rpm 100 KPA range for comparisons!

I would think you'd want to bring timing as quickly as possible, but still avoid knock. Should help make better torque.
After that every car is different and you're going to have to experiment to see what your car likes. Could be anywhere from 32-38 degrees.

see i believe you can have too much timing and not get detonation which in that case you would have to rely on your SOTP meter or dyno if you are so lucky. i never had a single degree of KR at WOT.

Agreed. That's why once you find how much timing your engine runs best at (32, 36, whatever) you want to bring it in as quick as you can. That's all I was saying.
To answer your question, I like the curve of your file, but the high rpm numbers in the 230/236.
I'd try 34-36* as shown on a datalogger (not what's in your file) and bring it in as quick as you can. You might end up going lower too.

FWIW my car made the best power (stock shortblock, LT4 P&P heads, cc306, ~11.5:1) with 41 degrees of total advance as shown in a datalogger. (that was from about 5800-7000)
