Post What should my Idle RPM be?

Right now I have an idle problem that only happens in Gear not in Nuetral or Drive. I wanna change the idle table for in Gear. What should my Idle RPM's be??

I have a 226/230 .534.544 cam....

You probably need timing work, try bumping the idle to 800.

Probably incread timing in your idle areas, make sure from MAP cell to MAP cell wherever your idle causes it to bounce around, that it is fairly smooth between the cells, otherwise it can choke itself if timing is too erratic between the cells it jumps between.

Thanks

Yep, idle is normally cell 16.

Cells 17 and 18 are used in open loop only for idle, 17 for low load, 18 for high load. I've never seen cell 17, only cell 18 occasionally... of course I have stock cam.

So I guess make sure to smooth transitions inbetween 16, 17, and 18. Those are the only idle cells, the others are gotten into while driving, I guess those transitions don't matter.

I know this is probably a stupid question but are these "cells" viewable in the LT1 edit program, or only in a data logging application like autotap?

The PCM uses different cells to store different BLMs. You can't edit them in LT1_Edit, probably can't view them either. Its something the PCM changes and refers to itself, based on sensor readings and the changes they see. They probably aren't even looked at when you read your PCM with LT1_Edit/Tunercat. Even if you could edit them, the computer would change them. You can lock them at 128 though, running constant open loop.

Almost every scan tool/program should show these cells and their BLM readings though.

The cells are sort of like blocks in a grid. The grid is based on RPM and MAP. Cell 00 is the lowest for both RPM and MAP, while cell 15 is the highest for both. Would look like this.

---------------------------rpm-----------------------
|-------------700---------1200--------2000------
|------|................................................. ..........
|------|..12..........13..............14.............15...
|------|................................................. ..........
|--80-|................................................. .........
|------|................................................. ..........
|------|..08...........09.............10.............11....
M-----|................................................. ..........
A-50-|................................................. ...........
P-----|................................................. ...........
|------|..04..........05..............06.............07.....
|------|................................................. ...........
|--32-|................................................. ...........
|------|................................................. ...........
|------|..00..........01..............02.............03.....
|------|................................................. ...........
--------------------------------------------------------

Not sure about LT1_Edit since I don't have it, but in Tunercat (Both programs edit all the same stuff though, so I'm guessing they are both the same), the only thing I've seen that "actually" mentions cells are the cell boundaries. You can edit those, one table is for BLM cell MAP, the other is for BLM cell RPM. You could change 700 RPM -> 500 RPM.... or 1200 RPM -> 2000 RPM.... and 2000 RPM -> 3000 RPM. Doing something like that would change the range that the cells control. I don't think that would do much, maybe, depends on your situation I guess.

But, there are a few tables to edit that have to do with cells, but don't actually call them that... because cells are based on RPM vs MAP.

Tables that deal with RPM vs MAP:

Main Spark Advance (400-4000 RPMs)
Extended Spark Advance (4000-7000 RPMs)
Volumetric Efficiency (400-2000 RPMs)
Extended Volumetric Efficiency (2000-7000 RPMs)

And thats it. Other tables involve MAP vs Coolant, Spark Advance vs RPM, KR vs RPM, KR vs MAP, etc.
