I am looking to buy a laptop soon. Just looking for some minor specifications to keep in my when looking. I am basically going to use this computer for freescan, load programs, etc.....and not looking to spend a ton of money.

What operating system, memory specs, etc should I shoot for.

You can save yourself a lot of grief if you make sure it has a serial port - something hard to find on today's laptops, particularly the low $$$ ones. The interface cable to the ALDL will typically have a serial connector, and not all the programs are happy with some of the USB/serial port adapters that are available. Most software manufacturers will recommend a specific adapter, but there is no guarantee it will work.

Get a used older IBM 380 or 560 Thinkpad or something on EBay.
It's a very rugged unit.
Anything with WIN 98 and up will be fine.
The older laptops all have serial ports.
I got a 380Z Thinkpad with Windows 2000 Pro for 200.00 including shipping.
