what does this code mean?

The SES light came on today and the car was missing really bad after I gutted my cat. I checked the datamaster and it says MALF 36:Hi-Res fail... what the hell is that, it went away after I turned the car off and the missing wasnt as bad. Also when it stumbles I looked at ignition advance and retard and the advance went down to 5 from like 30 or something and the retard went as high as 9 at most... I though if it was retarding the advance would be negative??? Anyways Could any of these problems be attributed to gutting the cat, I know open headers can cause the knock sensor to light up more but I wouldnt think just gutting the cat would do a damn thing.
