What cable should I buy to scann and program my comp?

I have seen the AKM and WOT web sites. They both hae what I need but in 2 different price ranges. The crimp pin connector is $65 bucks and AKM sells a molded connector for $ 95. I was wondering what connector you guys would recomend. I would pay more $ if I know it will last longer than a crimp pin connector. I just do't see buying this cable twice if I can just pay more now.

Also do the newer laptop have the port for me to connect the cable to the laptop or do I need to find something older?
I sent Steve a few e-mails but he only responded to the first one. He did give me a lot of info but that helped but I still had some questions. Does anyone have a ppicture of the two different cables? Thanks James

I don't see any reason the crimped cable couldn't last as long as the molded one. Just becareful with it and don't pull on it or stretch it out. The crimped one should be as durable as a phone cord and if pulled on a lot ofcourse can come apart.

In regards to your laptop question if you have or get a new laptop that doesn't have the serial port connector you can get a USB or PCMCIA adapter for $30-50 to make it work. I'd recommend the USB adapter if you need to go this route.

email andrew a t akmcables and ask him about his usb cables. he was working on a usb cable becuase most new laptops have no setrial port. but call him because he was putting some together the last time i was over at his house

oh and do your self a favor and get the molded cable. there are already to many things that go can wrong when programming pcm so eleiminate another by getting a cable less likely to break or messup. becuase then your pcm is fried. they say 1 out of 10 programms you will fry a pcm. ive programmed about 40 of them and have never had a problem.

Thanks for the info.
I have e-mailed Andrew and he did reply. He said that there was an adapter he used that worked ok for him but may not work with other software. Sound like I should be ok if I use that same adapter unless he comes up with a USB cable with OBD2 connector. If it can be done I would think he, of all people would be able to make it work.

I don't remember paypal being so fast and easy. I sent AKM the $95 dollars and was zapped right out of my account. I had an e-mail from AKM to confirm he got the cash, waiting for me me in my inbox. I was very impressed. Thanks ALL. Now you will I will start all the newbie question all over again. "How do you..."
You guys and Andrew did it all your self. I hope your ready for the million questions. JK Thanks Again
