Vista with Tunercats?

Guy that does all my tuning said he had problems getting vista to work with tunercats.
Just wondering what needs to be done to make it work if its possible since I am buying a laptop in the near future (this week)

I'm using it now in vista with no problems. I installed it in WinXP compatibility mode, and also set it to run in that mode.

i'm new to tuning and installed it (Tunercat) on my Vista Business laptop this week. follow instructions on Tunercat's site about installing it AND running it under XP compatibility mode. seems to work fine. one note, you will need to change the Tunercat preferences so it knows which Com port to use before you begin tuning. Not a Vista specific thing but stumped me for 30 min or so as my USB-->ALDL cable was set up on Com port 9. I put it on Com2 and still no luck but I then found that setting in the Tunercat preferences that solved it. It might have worked on Com9 but i'm not sure.

also note some 94 cars will have an odd program on them and you'll need to use the EE_B file and not the $EE file. mine was one of those odd ones. there is a way to tell real quick. download your PCM bin file and open in EE$ and look at the constants table on that screen and the first couple parameters will we way out of whack (like cylinder volume set to something like zero) and fuel parameters some huge number 700+ lbs/hr. if you see that crazy stuff, you need to use the EE_B file. i didn't realize this til i tuned it with $EE and my speedo was WAY off.

Ok, I did find a glitch with Vista. Mine crashes after 20 or so edits accumulate when graphically smoothing the spark table. Hitting save regularly seems to prevent it.

FYI...I fried my PCM using Vista and a USB adapter. I'm not sure if it was the Vista or the USB adapter or what, but I would recommend trying to find an old crappy laptop if at all possible to use for tuning. It will probably save you some headaches. Unless Tunercat has come outw with a Vista compatible program
