Upgrading laptop
Upgrading laptop
I'm getting to the point where I'm going to upgrade my laptop at home. I want to be able to use it for tunning and data logging as well. I've been reading the different threads since I'm sure I'm not the first to face this obstacle. I just want to verify I've got the information correct. I'm looking at getting a tablet or hybrid as they are called so I'm sure I will only have USB connections.
Tunerpro and Scan9495 will work with Windows 10 no problem, correct?
I have an old copy of TunerCAT on my old laptop. Will it work with Windows 10? Is there a way I can transfer it to my new computer? If memory serves me well, I had to enter a serial number to get the program to work. That was 10 years ago so I can't remember exactly. I'll check with TunerCAT as well. Just figured I'd ask here.
That old laptop had a serial connection so I have a cable from ALDLCables to interface between the laptop and PCM with the box between the cable. Can I just add a serial to USB adapter and still use that cable for tunning or will I have connectivity issues? Can that same cable be used for Scan9495 or do I need to build my own without that box in there like is shown in Gary's thread?
Is there anything else I should be aware of before buying a new laptop so I don't end up buying something that I can't use for tunning and data logging?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Upgrading laptop
Scan9495 has no issues with Windows 10. It can use the same cable that any other app uses, that has the FTDI converter chip inside. In your case, that chip would have to be inside any USB-serial port adapter you choose. Ones with the Prolific chip will not work with Scan9495 and probably not with any other app either. Scan9495 works just fine on my HP hybrid notebook/tablet.
Re: Upgrading laptop
Thank you, Gary. So an adapter like this should work for me? https://www.amazon.com/Tera-Grand-Pr...to+USB+adapter
I've heard back from TunerCAT with instructions and confirmation on getting the program to work with a Windows 10 machine.
Thanks
