Is this tuning kit any good ?

I wanted to get my own tuning software to tune my 95 lt1, I came across this on ebay. Is this kit any good, is it worth the price ? thanks..

dunno bout the cable but the software is tunercat, search here lots of people use it. You're probably better off buying a cable from akmcables and then the software + $EE definition file from tuner. that way you know youl'l have a good cable and know youl'l be able to get updates from tuner.

You can buy the tuning software and definition file directly from Tunercat for $90. You might pay up to $65 for a cable. So, his auction is no bargain for $200.

I don't know where you are getting your 65$ price from. But most of the cables i've seen that are cheaper than akmcables are crap. Though they were all in the 20$ range so a 65$ one might be decent. The comparable cable to the one in that auction at akmcables is 90$ (odbII style usb connector). So the ebay auction is 21.10$ more expensive than buying it yourself. and if you buy it yourself you know for sure tunercats will provide you with updates.

IIRC, Andrew (AKM) at one time referred people to Steve Ruse (wotelectronics) when he (Andrew) could not keep up with orders. I have been using one of Steve's cables for years with Tunercat and TTS Datamaster. Craig Moates also recommends Andrew or Steve's cables.

I got the $35 build it yourself kit from Steve and it works great. If you can solder it's easy to build. Steve also just lives down the road from me so I just went to his house and picked it up.

I dont see him carrying usb though (to get an accurate comparison you would have to compare usb to usb). However even with the price difference of getting a 90$ usb cable from akm you're still 21$ cheaper than the ebay deal so either way the ebay package isnt a deal.

I am activly in the market for tuning/logging software.
The question I asked the auctioneer was does this allow data logging to read current data and save the file for back up?
He said it will read the PCM and can save it. I logs data in real time and you also use it to tune changes to said parameters.
Correct me if I have this wrong – please!
To log data for diagnosing and reviewing tuning effects I need:
TTS Datamaster: Software Only: First platform $119.00
For the reading of my current PCM and making changes/flashing in new tunes I need:
Tunercat: RT Tuner
(Includes $42 Definition File) $99.95
For connecting/translating PCM data to these programs in my laptop I need:
ALDL cable: AKMCable with molded OBDI Connector, approx. 14 ft. in length (RS232) or 10 ft in length. Recommended for use with LT1_Edit Software, TTS Datamaster, and other high performance communications software $90
Is this not a total of $308.95?
OK – so I can get a less expensive cable, or get Datamaster through AKM and save 25 bucks.
Still about $275 for cable, logging and tuning ability using these programs.
LT1 EDIT is a flat $200 which logs data and tunes, but requires the cable – so same price.

If this guy has the cable, it reads the PCM, logs data and tunes for $200 – how is that not less?
And - if we are sure he s using Tunercat - is that not good quality?

Perhaps his offering should be tested

I don't see where in the auction where he says it includes datamaster
you can use freescan for free (hence the name).
Tunercat: RT Tuner
(Includes $42 Definition File) $99.95
For connecting/translating PCM data to these programs in my laptop I need:
RT Tuner doesn't work with your pcm so theres no point in buying it
you just need the $69.95 tuner.
ALDL cable: AKMCable with molded OBDI Connector, approx. 14 ft. in length (RS232) or 10 ft in length. Recommended for use with LT1_Edit Software, TTS Datamaster, and other high performance communications software $90
