tuning a bolt on only Lt1

I posted in lt1 tech but that was probably only the second best place to ask. Just curious, besides AFR tuning, what sorts of things can I improve on the stock pcm using tunercat and datamaster on a bolt on only car... any ignition adjustements or anything else? Thanks!

Well, there is quite a long list of things you can do with Tunercat. You can correct for different wheels/tires and different gears, you can correct for larger injectors and mess with your AFR like you said. Also, you can program out trouble codes (most associated with emissions) and fine tune the way your car responds to the knock it detects. You can control when your fans turn on and off, and you can also tune your timing for given conditions. There are other things that can be done, you just have to explore it. If you already have Tunercat, you can look at the different tables and then search for info about them on this board. Hope this is enough to get you started. I'm quite the noob as far as tuning my ECM is concerned, but I'm learning.

PatriotTA pretty much hit the nail on the head. There's so many tables in Tunercat to look at. You just need the time and patience to go thru them, experiment, etc... You'll find a lot of guys on here have pulled hours on top of hours on the dyno trying things out. If all else fails post up a question here, if someone knows the answer or is somewhat close they'll chime in.

Oh maybe I needed to be more specific, sorry. I meant what sorts of things can I adjust and how to make more power, I am already trying to play with the AFR making it at or just below 13:1 which seems to be recomended, what about the spark tables I know the stock ones are already pretty advanced, but if you look here http://www.ws6.com/mod-9.htm there is a lot ot gain with bolt on tuning and I am not sure if just adjusting the AFR would do what that did. Just curious if anyone has any idea and would like to share, or if there is anything else I can mess with to pull a few numbers higher on the dyno sheet next time around when I finish the boltons...

They must have increased the timing by like 2 degrees. Probably did not increase fuel in the PE table (%change to Fuel/Air by RPM at WOT) because thats a little high anyway (the reason most adjust the pressure down with an AFPR). Probably suggests to only run Premium gas with that much advance. This was a WOT run so there is no way to tell if they changed the advance tables across the board.

I am probably leaner and more advanced than them. I run like 37 max advance at places and cut my PE tables down to only at 5200 AND fuel pressure set to only 38psi. I adjusted my whole spark table and now especially love the part throttle responce but have been unable to duplicated its snap in WOT. The cold air helps it a lot so I am probably lean in the winter and rich in the summer. I guess I need 2 tunes for the seasons.

afpr does nothing for these cars becuase the pcm uses the last blm and it is calculated in the pe af ratio. and the o2s will adjust the pulse width on the injectors to compensate for the low fuel pressure.

theres no way you are lean in the winter and rich in the summer. the o2s take care of that for. your running at 14.7 to 1 normal driving, and then your running at whatever af ratio you programmed it to run in pe mode becuase the o2s have already corrected for wether changes, density in the air, and ect.

the only way to adjust the af ratio on these cars is to do it in the pcm. afpr dont do it. they only last about 3 min. as soon as the car goes into close loop its over.
