tuning the '93 z28
Does anyone in the northeastern U.S. tune these obd 1 speed density cars? It seems that to try to "tune" these 93's, is costly to buy all the, uncertain, software and cables ect...not realy knowing what, exactly, you need and lacking a human voice with the needed instructions, is difficult. I would like to know if there is anyone in the N.E. area that has the needed equiptment/ supplies to do the job. If I do it myself, what exactly do I need? Where do I go for help?

* EPROM burner -- for reading and programming EPROMS
* EPROM eraser -- for erasing EPROMS
* Memcal adapter -- for inserting P4 style Memcals into the programmer
Spare EPROMS
* Editing software -- tunercat, winbin, promedit, etc.
You can find a lot of good information at http://www.diy-efi.org/gmecm/
Hope this gets you started.
Thanks CP! I will look into the suggestions! In your estimation, is switching over to the 94 w/maf or getting all the other supplies better-OR finding someone who is in the business to tune? Thanks for the help!! Ted

If you search on this and other LT1 tuning forums, you will see quite a few threads by people asking how to switch from the 92-93 to 94-95 system, and the experienced tuners usually say to stick with the 92-93 system because it is not worth the major hassle of switching.
The basic question you need to ask is if you want to learn about electronic engine management and tuning. If you want to learn, then do it yourself. If you would rather just have somebody else do it, then pay for it.
The cost for the hardware and software is the same or less than the cost of a single dyno tuning session, so cost is not a strong deciding factor unless you're going to be tweaking the tune over a long period of time (like making many small changes to the engine) in which case DIY will be much cheaper.
If you're inclined to learn about it, the tuning is not hard at all, and there is plenty of information on this and other LT1 tuning boards about how to go about it.
The result when you tune it yourself probably won't be as good as somebody with years of experience, but then again if you have the equipment you can keep refining the tune so if you keep at it you can probably get as good a tune in the long run.

Thanks Steve, I in the last week took it to a place in the Providence, R.I. who said they could help, then, when I drove the 100 miles to get there, they said "O", I though you said it was a '98. But I did get a WB O2 bung installed and a dyno graph showing the A/F ratios in addition to the Torque and HP. Thanks for the help! Ted
