Just tried to run tunercat for the first time, but no luck. Can anyone walk me through the steps to get this thing going. The software is already properly installed.

do you have the definition file(EE) from tunercat?
have you read a file off your PCM to access and change?

I am talking about the flash program, how do you create a file in flash so you can link the ecm with tunercat. Yes I have the(EE) file and the flash file.
Contacted tunercat they explained how to create the file. Now my problem is that when tunercat attempts to read the ecm in order to create the file, It gets an error message.

The message is an error message:incorrect message sent. status: pcm memory read aborted. It down loads about 20% before error is generated.
Ive got the correct OBD2 style cable from AKM electronics.
I have not actually disconnected the battery or fuse but I noticed the ECM did reset ,the fans came on momentarilly and I checked my BLM's, They had reset to 128, My left side was at 160 at idle (BF cam) before the scan.

yeah i had this exact same problem once with a very very old laptop. after upgrading to a slightly newer model...all went well. can you describe what you have? some people will say it is a cable failure but if your using a real old laptop...i bet that is your problem.
what version of C.A.T.S do you have?

Well its not to old, about 3 years old. Its a Dell Pentium ll, 6 gig hard drive. Should be more than adequate I would think. Its not the newer windows type if thats what you meen. Also tunercat just told me to try the new windows version, Its more window friendly they said.

Tuner Cat
IIRC, for Flash programmable PCMs, the Tuner cat software requires you to run in a true dos window. If you run the program through Windows or even through a Dos window geneated by windows, it will crash. You need to create a bootable disk, insert it in your A: drive and instruct your computer to boot from the A; Drive. That way you bypass windows altogether.

Brian that makes sense. Can you tell in detail what I need to do. Im a computer dummy. Do I need to copy the entire cats program or just flashread. Also can I use a cd drive instead?

just transfer the flshread.exe onto a floppy....not CD. then go to start menu and click turn off computer. if there is an option to reboot in DOS then click that...if not then restart anyway. count to about 5 and hit F8 that should bring you to a window where you can select a number of options. one of which is the option of a command prompt...you will also see safe mode and some others so you know you are in the right place. you select "command prompt only" i think and then enter in A:/ and that will select the A drive. then type in flshread and it should work. make sure your disk is in the A drive. what windows do you have btw?
More problems. Would anyone know how to open DOS on Windows ME. There is no option on the shut down menu to start up in DOS and no option for command prompt when you hit f8 on start up. I believe those are Windows 98 specific.
Unfortunately, there is no standard DOS in WIN ME, Microsoft eliminated it. You can run a DOS emulation through Windows, but it won't work for the flash reader/programmer. You can get the WIN FLASH program, but it is not very reliable, especially in WIN ME. If you can, go back to WIN 98. It's much better than ME, and it has all the standard DOS in it.
Thats exactly what I was thinking. Change to Windows 98 that is.
I will post back with any results as soon as I get a hold of Windows 98. Thanks for the input guys; you all have been a big help.
