TunerCAT file password?

Recently I had been having trouble with my laptop. Since I dont have a CD burner on it, I uploaded all my CATS software to a server, and reformatted my laptop. I then downloaded the CATS software back to the laptop.

When I tried to open TC, it gave me a fatal error that said i was trying to bypass product registration, or something to that effect. I was able to redownload the trial version 2.10 of WinTuner, and then reuse my original registration data to unlock the tuner.

How ever, now it says I need a file password for my EE def files. I have not been able to resolve this issue. Can anyone help?

I think Ive posted enough on tuning in the past for everyone to know that I am not stealing this thing.

You should just contact TC@tunercat.com and he'll get you going again. He's always helped me out.

Re: TunerCAT file password?

Thanks to all, just got it.

Found an old zipped file with my old EE def files in it. They were unmodified from the upload because still zipped. Unzipped them, then unzipeed updates to them, and presto!

Re: TunerCAT file password?

I am glad you found fixed the problem. But in case anyone was wondering the reason it happened is because all definition files have a password. Even the stock ones. But the password is the date of the last file change. As long as the date is right the file will open. However when you downloaded the files from the server the last change date was changed to the time you downloaded the file.

Re: TunerCAT file password?

Yes TC emailed me and confirmed what Eddie said.

If you want to transfer tunerCAT files, you need to place them all in a zip folder, move them, then unzip them again. This will prevent the modified date from changing. TunerCATS customer service was awesome on this as always, just took a day or two.
