Tuner Cat Help

I recently got the Tuner Cat program for OBDI LT1's and I need help on every aspect of the programming. Like where to set everything and what does what. Any help would be appreciated.

Well you need the winflash program also. That will allow you to read and flash your PCM. First, read your PCM then save that file. Then use Tunercat to open that file and make changes, BUT, always "save as" a different name when you make changes. Keep your original original.

This is no longer correct. Version 1.98 started coming with the WINFLASH program built into the tuner, there is no need for the seperate WINFLASH program anymore with version 1.98 or later (I recommend you have 2.00, since 1.98 had an error in the WINFLASH program. If you just got it, it should be 2.00 regardless, but it always pays to make sure). When you say help, what do you mean? As in what does everything do? Well, that'll take a VERY long time to explain. Do a search on this board, you will find a lot of stuff to help out beginners. It's probably going to be a while before you can actually do any tuning to your car. Many of us tuners (myself, Madwolf, Dan K, and a few others you don't see too often) have been doing this for a few years now. It's not something you can just buy and plug in and get results. Do plenty of research before you make the decision to change parameters, you can destroy your engine and transmission if you do something wrong.

Thanks for the input guys. That will help me out a lot. Do you guys have any guess as to what a '79 chevy pickup would run in the quarter with 3.07 gears and the LT1 has a hot cam and ported heads?

Hmmm, I've got 2.0 and the built-in Winflash still doesn't work. I only tried it once though, but that was enough, I just use the separate program since its been reliable. Anywho, you need Winflash weather its separate or attached to Tunnercat. Now don't get too intimidated, always "save as" a different filename that way you can always refer back to your original or previous tables. It is highly recomended to read alot and have some understanding before you change anything.

I use FLSHPROG.EXE and FLSHREAD.EXE in DOS. To many people have fried PCMs using windows. I don't know if it's really that but I have never heard anyone fring a PCM flashing in DOS.
