TTS Datamaster software

Hello, does anyone know if this software is good to diagnose problems? I bought the GM ALDL OBD1 Serial Cable to connect to my laptop and downloaded the software for my car today. I am basically trying to find out why the car starts hard. The shop told me my Optispark failed, but it was just changed just over a year ago. I find it hard to believe its gone again.

The car starts hard, need to pump the gas and hold it down before it starts, and then after it starts, it sounds like the fans are running at high speed. It idles fine and drives fine until I give it gas to overtake. Then its knocking.

Will this software help someone looking at it, to tell me what may be wrong?

Thanks!!

Paul

If you know what you are looking at, it's a great tool.

Ok, I ran a test but only for a few minutes worth of driving. I did get a DTC 36 Hi Res error. I need to put it on a lift first to verify all cables are good. I think the opti is shot!! From what I read on this site, it seems to be the opti.

DTC 36, by itself with no other symptoms, may not be an opti death sentence. Clear the code, see if it comes back and monitor performance. Check the opti harness cable for connection/corrosion as well.

Thanks Rob. I will do this this weekend. Will let you know the results. Would I clear the error by disconnecting the battery?

You can remove the PCM BAT fuse for about 30 seconds to reset the computer. Easier than disconnecting the battery.
