Angry Stupid Laptop wont stay connected..Plz Help!!

Well, I got my laptop bout a yr ago primarily to scan/log/tune my car but I havent been able to..I have tried running PCMCOMM,Freescan,PCMRead and sometimes it will work and others it wont..I dont get it! I will attach the error messages PCMCOMM gives me at the bottem of this post for those that understand it. I am running WinXP on a Dell Inspiron 8100 and I have tried everything to get it to work. 1 moment it works, the next it dont
I know 100% the cable is good because it works on my buddies computer plugged up to my car.
Anyone have any suggestions or anything?

Here is what messages I get...
