spinning opti backwards
spinning opti backwards
trying to simplify here...
i want to run an LT1 wiring harness and pcm on an OLDSMOBILE v8. the distributor drive works in reverse rotation from a sbc. so, my optispart would have to turn in reverse rotation.
would this work? or just totally be confused?

and figured it could be adapted to my oldsie. it would be nice not having to worry about getting the correct computer, and wiring harness to work with a later model olds computer controlled dizzy.
i already have a port injection setup off of a '75 caddilac seville. (olds 350) its a single plane intake with twin 55mm tb. i wanted to use LT1 injectors on it.
Re: spinning opti backwards
Won't the pattern of the high res pulse be backwards?
ie.
Normal rotation:
101010101100110011110000
Reverse rotation:
000011110011001101010101
The low res pulse is just high low:
101010101010101010101010
So that shouldn't matter, but there could be problems with the high res side of things.

what does the pcm use the high level signal for? if memory serves me right i think that signal is used in troubleshooting the opti, right?
Re: spinning opti backwards
yeah you should be able to flip it upside down if it spins in the oppisite direction.. i just looked at one in the garage i had... also after fillping it over the cylenders wont be on the cap where you think they are you will have to fool around with it..
the low res is there to sync the the high res to the engine.. without it the pcm would have no way of knowing where it is in the firing order at startup as the high res is equil spacing....
flipping the pickup would do nothing as it is just basically a light that shines throu slots in a wheel...

Re: spinning opti backwards
if you flip the disk over wouldn't you have to drill new holes in it, if i'm not mistaken that disk has offset holes so it can't be inadvertantly put in backwards. if so you have to be very careful that you got it on straight
