Post Speedometer

Does the computer run the speedometer? If I remove the computer, How can I keep my speedometer? Are there mechanical ones that will fit? Is there a way to connect a mechanical speedometer to a 4l60e? Thanks in advance.

Re: Speedometer

You could get a mechanical. But I'm kinda curious, if you are romoving the computer how do you plan on shifting your 4L60E? They are electronically shifted from the PCM.

Re: Speedometer

Can we assume from your screen name that you have some sort of 95 F-Body? A "signature" with basic info on your car..... year, tranny type, major mods, etc.... will help people answer your questions more accurately.

I don't use my stock PCM to run the engine - I have a MoTeC M48Pro for that - but I still have my stock PCM in the car to drive the speedo and a couple other things.

Another alternative would be using a VSS sensor in whatever tranny you are planning to use in the car, and possibly use an interface box like the one from Dakota Digital (SGI-5) to interface it directly to the speedo:
