Spark Retard

How much power might I be losing if my car is pulling ~8 degrees of spark advance? A couple of rwhp or several rwhp?

Re: Spark Retard

There are so many variables, like when it's pulling it out and how fast your programming lets it come back in and how long it holds the 8 degree's retard.
When my car was pulling 10 degrees out from false knock, I could feel the difference. I would guess around 15 hp, but that's strickly a guess.

Re: Spark Retard

Yeah, I know there are lots of variables. It looks like it's starting around 3700 rpm in first gear and sustains through 2nd and 3rd. Starts out around 43 degrees of spark advance, and when it gets 1 degree of knock, spark advance drops to 32-35 degrees.

I have a DTC 43, telling me something's wrong with the knock sensor circuit, so I'm going to replace the knock sensor and rescan it. Hopefully that will fix my problem and give me a few extra ponies. Just wondering how many

If replacing the knock sensor works let me know because mine is unhooked and i can't find where to hook it in and my car is running like crap.

An unplugged KS will tell the computer to pull max spark retard all the time.

This may help you: http://shbox.com/1/ks.jpg - It's on the lower passenger side of the block.
